Point of clarification on the “donors” part. If i wanted to write a check to a player I couldn’t do that unless im a business with some kind of purpose to hire them for marketing of some kind.

Yes, I know the clearinghouse will be a joke. But despite the endless discussions on here too many people simply think that some rich donor can just start handing out money to players.

At least in theory, it’s more complicated
You can hire them to run a camp for your kids school team. Have them come to your kids birthday party. Not huge money items but if they set up a football camp at the whole HS, you could probably push 10k or more. Or you just hand them an envelope with some Bennys in it.

Agree. These big dollar deals are going to come from businesses. I’m probably nitpicking and I shouldn’t but there is still enormous confusion about this.

Like half the people on this board think the situation you describe is how people are getting paid millions. Even worse, they think that can’t start until we fully fund the revenue share from the university. They don’t understand they’re two different things.

Arch can take 5 million from his national TV deals and TX couldn’t pay him a dime, for example.

The google sheet that keeps getting posted in this thread.

So using this spreadsheet as a guide, Rogers has awarded 75 scholarships. Estimated position needs are in ().

QB -3 (+1)
RB -4 (+1) inc Peppers
WR -8 (+1)
TE -5
OL -13 (+4)
DL -16 inc Moore
LB -9
CB -6 (+2) inc Coffey
S - 8
K -2 inc Smith on scholarship
P -0 (+1) Lounsbury walk-on
LS -1

It appears the staff is still recruiting WR's hard, so we could see 10 scholarship WR.

Also we still don't know about 2025 Roster players: Rutledge, Jensen, Holt (OL), Malone (DE),Hicks, Stecker(S)

I think you can write a check to each player for $599 though.

On the second tab I’m tracking scholarships. Haven’t added Janikowski yet, but he’d put it at 71. The 5 I’m counting as walk-ons would be Caleb Schmidt, Adlai Lounsbury, Rylan Barnes, Trevor Fortenberry and Chase Smith. I’d assume none of those 5 are on scholarship.

I don't even know where to look. I know that wrestling gets 9.9 scholarships. I don't know how many we give out for other secondary sports. It's not just counting the rosters.

If you can point to the right spot, I will count.

Did I ever say it was about total numbers? Did I?
Wrestling used to be 9.9 but now they can have up to 30. Basically there are no scholarship limits anymore, but there are roster size limits. If you want,, everybody on the roster can be on scholarship. I believe this is true for all sports, but it definitely is for Football, Basketball, and Wrestling.

I don't think there's really anyone under that belief. You just pit your coaches against each other by doing so.

Fareway takes their normal donation to the AD and gives it to Audi directly as NIL. ISU is now out money that would have predominantly gone to FB and MBB while Audi is also getting revenue sharing.

Rogers now has a player demanding $X to stay and he goes to Steve Sukup for the money. Sukup funds that FB player. TJ now needs to pay a player to stay. Steve Sukup says, "I'm tapped out for this year. My money already went into FB." Jamie now goes to Steve for his annual donation to the general budget. He's tapped out. Football got all the money, MBB got nothing. TJ is pissed and bolts for a fully funded program with NIL as well.

Resources are still scarce. We don't have unlimited money to go around to everyone. I would bet that's why Jamie wants revenue sharing fully funded before donors are going directly to athletes. Even once that's done I'm guessing Jamie desperately wants the money being "set up" by the AD so it's not pitting coaches against each other.

Exactly. This has to cut both ways. I don't think you can afford to get a reputation of being petty like that if you want to compete as a coach in today's landscape.
For sure, being petty would be dumb, and I would expect the coach to also warn the player that, while they’re in the portal, we’ll be looking to fill your roll because we’re recruiting guys that are ready to commit to our brand of football and get down to business.
