Is he our only punter on the roster, currently? Perkins is done and I don't know if DuPont stuck around. Even if he did, at least there is competition for that role now.Heck of a punter too,
No. Because Iowa States student body is 55% male, the scholarship count for men should be near 55% of all scholarship. Its ok to have more women on athletic scholarships, but not more men? Is that really how Title IX works?
Wonder what the asterisk is for
Yes, at least to a point. You can be heavy on womens sports, you can not be heavy on mens. Its ok to have more women on athletic scholarships, but not more men? Is that really how Title IX works?

But in practice who would ever agree to that? The athlete would still have to pay the difference in tuition and the revenue sharing would be taxable so the full scholarship would always want to be fulfilled before any revenue sharing. One bit of nuance that I forgot about on the scholarship side. Football previously had to be full scholarship, but that’s no longer the case and partial scholarships can be awarded.
So I guess you could technically go partial scholarships + rev share in cases rather than just pure walkons
All I did was google old scholarship number and new ones. Just like anyone can. I dont have the numbers either, I have to search too.I don't even know where to look. I know that wrestling gets 9.9 scholarships. I don't know how many we give out for other secondary sports. It's not just counting the rosters.
If you can point to the right spot, I will count.
Did I ever say it was about total numbers? Did I?
Would there ever be a reason to hold back on some monies for next year?It would be fascinating to know what their remaining budget is. I'm guessing that they might have saved a little chunk for a couple big targets
I don't think so. At this point, it just saves what we're taking out of reserves to fund the revenue share. Not as though we'd have more money to spend next year. At least that's the way I understand it.Would there ever be a reason to hold back on some monies for next year?
I mean a walkon would be really happy to get a partial scholarship, vs nothing. But in practice who would ever agree to that? The athlete would still have to pay the difference in tuition and the revenue sharing would be taxable so the full scholarship would always want to be fulfilled before any revenue sharing.
Sure but we’re not going to have full scholarships for the full roster. We’ve got 85 scholarships 105 roster spots. Maybe it won’t be practical to actually use partial scholarships, but perhaps you find some marginal gains in talent across the full roster if you give use a handful of partial scholarships plus some rev share to attract some guys at the back end of the roster. But in practice who would ever agree to that? The athlete would still have to pay the difference in tuition and the revenue sharing would be taxable so the full scholarship would always want to be fulfilled before any revenue sharing.
Gotcha. Not sure why my search came up short. Very informative. Thank you.All I did was google old scholarship number and new ones. Just like anyone can. I dont have the numbers either, I have to search too.
Then I googled enrollment numbers, to get ISU enrollment ratio. Just like anyone can. aprox 55% Men, 45% women.
As of the old numbers we gave out 130 Mens scholarships, by ratio we should give out 135.
As of the old numbers we gave out 117 Womens scholarships, by the ratio we should give out 112.
So we are about 5 heavy on womens, if my math is correct and we are 5 light on mens. (which is closer than it was in recent years)
This number has actually gotten closer in recent years because the ratio has gotten closer. When we dropped baseball, we did not do it because of title 9, but because of money. So at that time, we were ahead by around 12, womens scholarships, because baseball was 11.7, if what was said at the time was true.
It was also stated at least in the last couple years that according to title 9 we were in the clear to add baseball and not have issues, so we had to be close to that 10 number recently. But we may not have maxed our numbers on all mens sports too. I know I read somewhere what ISU used to give but dont know where.
Now the new numbers.
If we gave out max scholarships, for the sports we have we could give out 221 mens scholarships, but by title 9 ratio we should give 240.
If we gave out max scholarships, for the sports we have we could give out 217 womens scholarships, but by title we would only require 198.
I do not know what the final decision has been on any sports since the numbers increased. I dont know if we increased any scholarships at this point. But we have more room to add mens scholarships by the numbers if we want.
The biggest issue is by title 9 we must give about 45% of the scholarships we give out to women.

See my edits I added more info to that post.Gotcha. Not sure why my search came up short. Very informative. Thank you.
There was $2-3M of this years budget that wasn’t spent yet as it was being saved by Campbell for retention bonuses for some of the guys. Sounds like this is available for use now.Stupid question time. Any chance a few major donors pooled say... 1,2, 3 million together and gave it to JP to go shopping for FB? Is that allowed?
Good
