***Official portal tracker thread***

It will be ok in year one. Nebraska fans and Penn State fans are not the same, as someone knows several of both. And tbh, most Nebraska fans don’t think of themselves as championship contenders anymore

Speaking of Nebraska, SIAP, but they just lost their shiny new QB to Kentucky a day after he committed to them. Wow. Sucks for them because he was pretty talented.

Nebraska hasn’t won a natty since the mid 90s but they still think of themselves as Championship contenders. Penn ST has made the CFP just last year. A game away from the championship. 8-4 means they lost to a Rutgers or temple level team. That will not be accepted there.
I've lived in Pennsylvania and can tell you the fan base appears to be a lot like Nebraska. Much of their pride/ego/expectations is based largely on success that came many years ago (notwithstanding, of course, the recent run to the college football semi finals). But keep in mind they beat SMU and Boise State to get to the semis so a relatively easy path.

The good news for a coach at Penn State is you have 7 other sports teams between Pittsburgh and Philly to keep people busy complaining about other things. The bad news is that the media is insanely critical and so are the fans.

It sounds like Matt is adept at insulating himself from media noise. He couldn't care less (and probably doesn't even see) the vitrol on social media right now. His problem is going to be the donors.

The players, on the other hand, are going to have to deal with social media $hit at a different level. They've surely all seen it before, but probably not with this kind of intensity and frequency.

Just popped on to get a quick update on ISU portal news. And it appears Matt Campbell and Penn State have bought Cyclone Fanatic. Thanks a lot CW!!!

Did a quick count of the 31 most recent posts:
  1. 26 are about Penn State or Matt Campbell
  2. 1 is about Crystal, Balls & Meth
  3. 1 is about being young and stupid
  4. 1 is about ASU debt forgiveness
  5. 2 MENTION ISU'S NEWEST PORTAL COMMIT CARTER PABST. Awesome news, we need more WR's
PEOPLE, PEOPLE LET IT GO!!

If you can't let it go, go to a PSU message board or start up an EVERYTHING PSU thread on this message board to vicariously drown your sorrows. Heck maybe the folks who NOW run Penn State Fanatic can come up with a catchy NIL T-Shirt. And maybe ISU AD can get some of the proceeds

I think if the talent stayed at ISU and we played PSU’s schedule next year we could go 9-3, 8-4. They’re not going to be national championship contenders but they’re good enough for year 1 to build a foundation on. And some of those players are NFL draft picks
If Iowa State's team from the 2025 season, could play next season's PSU schedule, AND, big asterisk here, avoid all the injuries we had, they could easily be 10-2,11-1, or, with some luck, even 12-0. Their schedule next season is so favorable, CMC is going to be doing fine, without doing much.

Looking at what we have here and coming, I'm no longer worried about the talent level of next year's team. I think immediate success will come down to how well they learn to play together.
Start: *Hope we can be immediately competitive*
Now: "We could be pretty F good"

Likelihood: somewhere in between?
Coaching & will all gel are the keys, for sure
