***Official portal tracker thread***

I think that is exactly why he raided ISU so hard. He has to have the culture first. He brings in the guys he knows has that and then evaluates recruits from there to make sure they will fit. Franklin was changing coordinators every other year and was basically just a really good recruiter. If Campbell can find the 4 and a couple 5 star players with the character he's looking for he probably will be successful. If he has to rely on 3 stars he better have an unbelievable talent evaluator or he has no chance.
I think it’s going to be hard to have the bubble he did at ISU with a bunch of high 4s and 5s.

Telling them they have to work hard and climb the rough side of the mountain is t going to work ad well with a guy who can go to any team he wants and get the star treatment.

Fair enough on “many” but Brahmer, Neal, and Hansen were. With another year of development you don’t think some of these guys could be on an All-B10 team?

I think it’s just cope to say all these guys are scrubs

No one is saying they are scrubs. But they didn't exactly light up the big 12.

Are they going to improve because they are getting paid more? Is play calling going to improve because the coaches are getting paid more?

Didn’t say they were scrubs, just that you can’t say they are all conference performers when they weren’t here.

When a player hits their 4th-5th year, and many times their third, the development is going to be minuscule; unless a new coach steps in with a different style or drills that works for them. The one and dones Campbell took are basically who they are at this point.

I think if the talent stayed at ISU and we played PSU’s schedule next year we could go 9-3, 8-4. They’re not going to be national championship contenders but they’re good enough for year 1 to build a foundation on. And some of those players are NFL draft picks

what did all of those 4 and 5 star players do for Penn State? Got their coach fired, that's what. 5 star culture vs. 5 star players.

And we have absolutely no idea if Penn State is overpaying for the Iowa State transfers. That's just an assumption we're making to make us feel better about everything.
The one overriding sentiment that has yet to be refuted is MC is a compulsive loyalist.

You don’t think that guy is using $30m to pay off the loyalty? It appears the money isn’t going to their former players.

FWIW we're going to be asking the same question about a lot of the guys we're bringing in.
Big difference when you consider we are trying to assemble a team and Campbell is basically moving a team. We gotta pay to bring in players, period. It’s like everything that costs in life rarely do the prices go down.

Fair enough. What I should have said many of those guys are capable starters for a good B10 team. Two of them are capable of All-B10 honors.

Huh? They're both assembling teams.

One thing I've wondered about, with 20ish guys going from ISU to Penn State, is if there will be any favoritism from Campbell. Obviously he and Mouser know these guys better, but it's not like Penn State doesn't have dudes on their team. So, (for example) would Bacon, Ebel and Brezina be the starting LB's because there's familiarity there, or would those 3 really be the best 3 LB's on their roster? I just think bringing in half a team from a team you were just coaching, might cause some "us" vs "them" type dynamics. I dont know, maybe not

The McDermott conundrum. What works with lover level recruits doesn’t work with most ‘stars’.

I think this is reasonable and realistic, but it appears PSU fans are well aware of their hot garbage schedule. Also keep in mind 11 months ago they lost by a FG in the national semifinal.

I don't think PSU fans are as impatient as a lot of fanbases, but they also aren't going to be super excited about wasting as easy a schedule as they are ever going to see on a 8-4 or even 9-3 season.

Marshall, Temple, and Buffalo in the non-con
Maryland, NW, Purdue, Minnesota, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Washington, Michigan and USC in conference.

I’ve said this before…Remember the Titans isn’t a movie because it’s a common outcome when you push two groups together towards a common goal.

It rarely happens…especially in the short duration of a year.

I think we've seen that with a PSU player's tweet.

Many of the ISU to PSU transfers had agreed to follow Campbell the night of his exit. No way they had money and everything completed figured out. Good chance he said it would be more but the players probably wanted to follow their coach.

Jimmy has way less Wazzu players coming so it’s hard to say that his team is going to basically be Wazzu from this last year but just paid more.

I think we've seen that with a PSU player's tweet.
Also seems apparent because of really no announcements of portalling right away, players at the bowl saying they hadnt even met with Campbell, and then when the portal opens and it’s apparent that a bunch of ISU guys are coming that PSU players flood the portal.
