My point was just an observation that either Franklin was good at recruiting, it is super easy to get 4-5 star guys at PSU, or a little bit of both.
So a little surprising so far that Campbell is 100% ex-ISU guys. Of course that's going to change because it has to. But if he's going to basically take the same approach that worked at ISU, including using mostly 3 star guys, what was the point in leaving? He's already doing that here. The whole point, according to Matt was to go somewhere where he had the resources to compete at the highest level, meaning pay for better talent. If you're going to use those resources to get a similar level of talent, kind of defeats the purpose.
Now, I don't think there's any doubt he's going to get more talent than he could at ISU. Like I said, you can fall ass backward into 4 and 5 star guys there. He's got to find the balance between folding in 4 and 5 star talent into his 5 star culture. That is easier said than done.
Don’t really have a center. A center is a position that takes more skill and brains than the rest. You can’t throw any lineman there.
Also, it establishes that if you show loyalty and buy into the program you will be compensated far above your outside program percieved actual value. Could be good, could be bad. We shall see.
Without a doubt, but look at his record against the blue bloods of the conference, like Franklin, he has zero victories. If Ruhl has another year like this past one, he will be out of a job this time next year.

No he won't. He just signed a giant extension to keep him from talking to Penn State that made every dime through 2032 guaranteed.

I tend to think Campbell is taking so many of his former ISU player with him to have them set the standard of what the staff expects out of the players and how to act. If after this seasons PSU is still recruiting like ISU than Campbell will not long for the job.
Extensions mean little these days as protection when schools can just buy out the contract and pay off the coach to go somewhere else. By giving Ruhl the extension the AD put his job on the line, because right now Ruhl has done nothing to earn the extension.
I think his goal was to take 8-10, but when he showed up, the positions were out and PSU players sensed they would not get fair treatment with the ISU players so once the announcements hit, the PSU players started leaving, or at least the ones who felt they could play elsewhere. So then Campbell had to come up with players. At the same time, old ISU players that didn’t immediately follow were dealing with the Campbell bubble bursting. Jimmy moved on the players went into the portal either willingly or shown. Campbell then went for the easy pickings to help build his bubble at PSU.
And many of those players are All-B10 caliber. Brahmer and Neal specifically. Every school in the country would have wanted those guys. Becht too for that matter. Thamel reported LSU made a big run at him.
How many of them were all big 12? Are you saying the talent in the big 10 is worse than the big 12?
I think that is exactly why he raided ISU so hard. He has to have the culture first. He brings in the guys he knows has that and then evaluates recruits from there to make sure they will fit. Franklin was changing coordinators every other year and was basically just a really good recruiter. If Campbell can find the 4 and a couple 5 star players with the character he's looking for he probably will be successful. If he has to rely on 3 stars he better have an unbelievable talent evaluator or he has no chance.
I agree, and maybe what Penn State was missing over the last 10 years was the right culture to win those big games. Sounds like they were just trying to throw talent at the problem and it wasn't working. I'm not saying Campbell's strategy will work, but at Iowa State, the results in general were greater than the talent on our team so it is plausible.
Seems like a rush to judgement. If Penn State's 2 deeps end up being 90% cyclones, then you make a good point, but they won't be 90% cyclones. They will be a MUCH smaller fraction of cyclones.
Fair enough on “many” but Brahmer, Neal, and Hansen were. With another year of development you don’t think some of these guys could be on an All-B10 team?

Do you factually know that those players were compensated far above their preceived actual value? Or are you just assuming they are?
