I assume they have predetermined budgets for each position across the entirety of the depth chart. And as spots get filled, hopefully they can flex extra funds to other positions…. Like QB1.
P4 schools?
Obviously you don’t want to spend 7% of your budget on 1 player, but don’t starting NFL QBs command way more than 7% of the salary cap?
A school paying $5M for a QB would need to have an NIL budget of $72M+ to keep it under 7%.
PSU would need to be at $43M if Rocco is getting $3M.
Haven’t heard his name mentioned. Hopefully that’s a good sign he’s coming back.
The clearinghouse is for outside deals. Nothing to do with what the schools pay players.

My 7% was calculated by taking the $13M FB allocation and dividing into $1M. So if ISU spent $1M or more on one player that would be 7% or more of their budget.
I don't think that is a wise idea.
If they’re giving $5m to a QB, they’re exceeding the $20m limit. So that $5m deal has to include outside deals. That’s been the trend where the school is setting up these deals now and promising that money just like it was from the internal NIL dollars.
Just look at Kiffin’s contract. LSU guaranteed him $25-30m in NIL funds. If the clearinghouse were a real thing, they’d have been on the phone asking for details on how that works. But those limits don’t matter at all.
Well there are plenty of kids at small schools capable of stepping up and helping a team win at the power 4 level. There are also plenty of guys who will get paid way more money than they're worth simply because they've had some success at a P4 school. Give me somebody like Exline who looked the part putting up monster numbers in D2 any day. I'm assuming he's grateful for the opportunity and hungry to prove what he can do at the highest level.

You're putting way to much stock into one websites arbitrary rankings. He might be the #15 QB, he might be #100. One site ranking him #69 is completely meaningless. Ignore it.

Obviously there are late bloomers or kids who somehow managed to stay off the radar for other reasons.
But also obviously the talent level across the board is much lower at D-II on average.
I’d say the gap between the Big 12 and the Mountain West is much, much smaller than the gap between the Mountain West and D-II.

He is also guy who was so driven to get a P4 job that when an AD told him he needed time at the next level he left the school he’d been at for 15 years to do that, and then left that job after a year. That strongly implies he is competitive as **** to me.
Those are two key ingredients to creating someone with something to prove.
As I said, it is early. But a P4 school grabbing two D-II kids from the portal raises eyebrows, particularly when they’re the only two commits.

My point was it seems like spending much more than 7% on your starting QB is commonplace.

ok? We aren't the NFL. It's my opinion spending that much on one person is not smart when there are so many spots to fill.
Considering we have like 45 spots to fill, I think I’d wait just a minute on jumping to conclusions about the type of kid he’ll recruit.
