***Official portal tracker thread***

The most recent confirmation is the GPA score for the men's basketball team- as announced by TJ to open up his Houston Baptist post-game presser. The quality of TJ is unmatched at the college coaching ranks. The guy was beaming about his player's an academic success. If Iowa State losses TJ then heads will need to roll.
Should JP give him $10 million a year if he wants it, and another school is offering him that?

With two portal windows last year, about 5000 players put in to transfer in total. About 3800 went in the winter window. 4800 players went into the portal just yesterday on the first day.

The House settlement obligation has convinced many of these players and agents that there is a lot more money to be had at the P4 level than in previous years. We will see if that's actually true.

It goes without saying that with that many players available all at once, if you are putting yourself into the portal without having a good idea where you are going to land, you do not have the negotiating ability you may believe you do.

That and before this year players were receiving money based on their NIL, wink/wink. So most poor suckers on the roster thought only the top players on their team deserved cash.

Now with the House Settlement and schools creating their own in-house NIL collectives, so the pay-for-play reality band-aid has been violently ripped off. So those same poor suckers are now thinking: "I play, so I need to get paid".

I don't need to see names. But would love to see team-by-team House/NIL (In house) payments to players. Maybe the DMR needs to file a FOIA request for the Hawks & Clones.

We have good tutors.

If that is the market, hell yeah. Everyone wants a “deal”, but I’ll take the given commodity every time at Iowa State.

I would have found some way, anyway, to save Campbell. You just never know what we are getting and football is just so valuable, for everything, not just the athletic department. Campbell gave us credibility nationally.

Water under the bridge. Let’s hope Rogers can do the same and maybe take it up a notch!

So you would have given Matt $10 million a year... and TJ $10 million a year.... that's awesome!! Maybe you should replace JP! I can't wait to see your budget for ISU athletics.

Can we confirm players are still required to go to class? TJ Finley is in the portal and his next school will be his 7th. I would love to see the transcripts on a lot of these kids that have gone to 3+ schools.

I know Iowa State touts team academic accomplishments, but would be interesting to see grad rates at schools.
Schools like Purdue, and other quality universities are offering online degree opportunities, it is absolutely easier today to maintain a path to graduation.
You can switch majors, but as long as you are taking X credits per school term, you can maintain eligibilty from an academic standpoint

And NOBODY is academically ineligible anymore either these days. It's unheard of.

This feels like an area that the NCAA could jump in and the court system couldn't interject itself. Implement specific academic requirements to be eligible:
  • Credits each semester
  • Minimum GPA each semester
  • Progress toward degree at end of school year
  • Graduation after 4 years
If academics requirements were elevated, then maybe we would see fewer transfers. ESPN shows that as of mid-day on Jan 2 there were 4500 D1 football players in the portal.

But the other reality, not convinced the majority of P4 schools are all that interested in player academics. Just keep the money rolling in. It wouldn't surprise me if in the next 3-5 years that players on college teams no longer have to be enrolled.

NCAA is so neutered at this point, not sure what they do these days.
Your process makes sense, but nobody to enforce.

There are standards for some of those things.
Here's a link for the 40-60-80 rule. https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2021/2/10/student-athletes-current-staying-track-graduate.aspx

The minimum GPA and progress are determined by the institution (outside of the 40-60-80 rule) and must be met at the departing school for transfers to be eligible at the new school .

In Jimmy I trust, but there has to be some brutal game of chicken going on right now with coaches and players(agents).
The 3 guys we "picked up" look solid, but are from Gardner-Webb, Ferris St, and ?
But how many are we talking to, like Cornerback X, who says I want $750K to come to ISU, we, the staff thanks but you're too rich, and then in 2 weeks, when CB X comes back and says, well, ok, now I will take $500k....
I wonder who will break first, coaches and start paying, or players and start lowering value.
What 3 guys did we "pick up"? Not seeing any corroborating evidence.
