***Official portal tracker thread***

So the incoming coach who's never stayed anywhere more than two years is being Deified on here and we're trashing the coach who stuck it out for 10 years and won us a Fiesta Bowl. Got it.

Coach who was here for 10 years, got us to one conference championship, and was blown out of the water.

We can do better. Have some self-respect, folks.

He’s 100 percent correct. Campbell only cares about Campbell and his loyal circle.

My son knows two of the players transferring. One of them told my son that apparently Campbells staff is telling the ones they won’t bring to PSU they should be looking as it’s no longer the same ISU anymore.

I’ve posted in another thread about how the shine of Campbell went away after I learned about his fragile ego and many NDAs attached to former coaches. It would appear he ego is so fragile that he can’t handle a successful Iowa State without him if the above is true.

Now that he’s gone I hope people see that he really is no different than any other self absorbed college coach that is only in it for themselves.
More information that links to Campbell trying to taint the well on his way out.

With all the liability and costs JP said beer would bring in $200-$400k a year at FB.

So less than raising ticket prices $1 or $2 a ticket.

Plus you get the diminished revenue from families and people who don’t want to be around drunken idiots.

Because that’s who’s gonna bring in your real money. Not the dude with a beer with his hot dog…the people wanting 7-8 on top of their tailgate activities barfing and causing issues.
I always love the 'drunken idiots' thing as if 1) it isn't already happening and 2) every single study shows that alcohol related incidents GO DOWN when you serve in stadium.

Jamie has asked enough of the fan base to give more and more and more that it's time to shift some of that burden to people who can voluntarily choose to spend their money that way rather than strong arming the entire fan base to pony up more to get access.

Understandable, but places with alcohol sales in the stadium tend to see a decrease in arrests and alcohol-related incidents. You see fewer people “loading up” before going in knowing they can purchase in-stadium.

Now, if ISU does go this route I’d support keeping a few sections designated as alcohol-free “family” sections for JCC kids and their parents.

I mean I know we Loyal Sons can really throw them back but I don't think there's $30 million in profits sitting out there in Jack trice on game days.
It’s obvious not the answer in and of itself, but given our position you’d think you leave no stone uncovered.

There are fair points against doing it. I just don’t know if we’re practically in a situation where we can say “eh, it’s only a half a million in revenue”.

Seems like we need to find about a dozen such half a million dollar opportunities

Is this too optimistic?

* On average, teams lose about 20 of 85 scholarship players each year when they've used up all eligibility. Thus, there's ~20 losses. (I didn't look up the actual number.)

* We have 29 players that have announced their intent to transfer.

* It's still early, thus one might assume another 20 players will enter the portal.

That leaves us with ~70 losses out of 85 scholarship players.

Then, on the bright side, we rebuild around those 15, plus 1-2 players who entered the portal but decide to stay, plus ~10 of our previously committed recruits who decide to stick with ISU, plus ~5 walk-ons who earn scholarships.

That gets us to 32, which means that the staff will need approximately 53 transfers and/or new HS commits.

Again, too optimistic?
First some we’re walk ons I believe so the number is 105 players on the roster (we do 85 scholly/20 walk ons). Then throw in about 7-10 more since we did t have to boot the players over the 105 cap already here when they reduced roster size. So start with 112 or so and take off grads and transfers out, add the signed recruits and that tells you how many open spots we have.

I do hope CJFnR and staff can pull some transfers from other power schools - but the underheralded guys from WSU/elsewhere can be good fits too.

Jayden Higgins started his career at Eastern Kentucky. Let’s see what kind of guys start rolling in next week.
Even the playoff teams have players who were lower level guys.

This is why ****** teams like Northwestern destroy G5 opponents like Central Michigan 34-7. Unfortunately every school serves as the recruiting ground for every other school in the pecking order.

If we use our 14M wisely year to year we’ll be successful. Roster construction and distribution of player salaries will be really interesting.

As far as I'm concerned, the Ivy does it right, in how they award the autobid.
Every Cyclone knows that except for a brief period at the beginning of this century the conference tournament determines the true champion.

Jokes aside, bid stealing via conference tournament runs is one of the exciting quirks of the NCAA tournament.

It actually made me root for Missouri back in the early ‘90s when they won the Big 8 tournament as like a 7 or 8 seed.

You guys are missing the real potential money maker.

Prohibit beer and alcohol at tailgates. Instead set up multiple beer trucks throughout the tailgate lots. Also have hard stuff being sold. Forget to look at ids and sell the hell out of alcohol. I figure with our drinking reputation we will have about 100 million in NiL per season….

This is a hard job. I think people are really taking everything Campbell did here for granted. I don't see a reason to be so optimistic as of right now. Ask me again in September when the team is on the field.
Yep, there is a reason we went from having nearly zero NFL players to what we have now. Hate what’s happening because we believed in Campbell, and it feels like a screw job now. But being realistic, it’s going to be a daunting task to get where Campbell had us. History tells us this.

100 mil? That's pretty funny. I find beer disgusting but I'd probably buy a couple shots before a game, if they were available.

They used to run this play in the 80’s and early 90’s at a horse barn outside of Ames. Bused in and bused out. No ID, beer came out a taps on the side of a couple old beer trucks.

Finally someone’s insurance or the sheriff’s department got wind of it and shut’er down.

You bought a pin that got you in for $20?

Went to a couple…it was a good time.

Agree completely!! And don’t overlook that Pedo State now has the coach staff and most of the players who lost to a rather pathetic Colorado team and barely beat Arkie State & Okie State!
