But that assumes Jontez will have more affinity toward his next school. Who knows, he might have a stronger feeling toward Iowa State & his Cyclone teammates after his playing days are over. Heck I feel 10x more affinity toward Iowa State vs. graduate school attended.

Most of these guys aren't making decisions based on a "dislike" of their Iowa State experience. But a business decision--either financially, system fit or desiring a new sport/life experience.

It might not be a players choice. The staff might be targeting another player to start and willing to pay that player starting pay. The staff might be focusing on keeping/paying younger players to build for the future (aka pay Coffey vs. Williams or Manske vs. Rocco).

Also in the case of Williams, when is he expected back from his knee injury?

I wish players and coaches would just be honest. "I'm leaving because these guys are offering me way more money".

Am I wrong in thinking that just because they throw their hat in the ring doesn't mean they will leave? Could it just be a trial balloon to see what their value actually might be. Over the course of my career, I applied for jobs and subsequently was offered but ended up staying put because the grass wasn't green enough to justify making the change. Do we know what CJR philosophy is on players with a wandering eye?

Think about the irony that now exists in this new NIL environment. We fans are encouraged to purchase player merch (e.g. the RB Rocco Becht hat) to help show our support for these star athletes. However, when that star athlete exits for a "greater" offer at another school, all we fans are left with is a hat or t-shirt that we can no longer don in public.
This is why I have severe reservations about ponying up money for player-related merch (non-seniors, that is). Same reason I never bought a Devin Williams or Josh Hader Brewers jersey (and refuse to buy a Chourio or Misiorowski jersey) - those guys have either left or will eventually leave to another team.

Sione Perkins in the portal.

That's a position group where I'll be interested in how many guys Rogers keeps. In watching his Wazzou team games, their OL looked much leaner than ISU's. Maybe that was a function of it being his staff's first year.

Clanton talked about having maulers and nasty guys, so it will be interesting to see what the new OL coach values.

This is the reason why I wear/buy "vintage" gear to games.. Eg, a Purdy or Hall or Kolar ISU jersey to football games or, in professional sports, a Tim Duncan Spurs jersey.

New oline coach was at Auburn. They were a big bunch and have a couple young guys that entered the portal at a similar time to when the Oline coach would have talked to them.

Reading between the lines, my guess is the players have held off on declaring for the portal to make their lives on campus simpler and also I'm guessing they were told to explore the portal if they like but once they were in it they were out.
