***Official portal tracker thread***

Should be, but I guarantee you that next summer, the Penn State SID office is going to really tamper down the expectations whispers to the media and podcasters, so if they get 8 wins, Campbell looks like a genius pick by the AD and 9 or 10 wins, wow, he is the greatest thing since a slice of bread was invented.
And 11-12 wins he will be seen as the best tactical decision by PSU leadership since perjury and obstruction of justice!

Mark Farley was on KXNO after he announced his retirement and he talked about how this was another reason he was ready to retire. His program at UNI was a developmental program and he said he had guys that were being recruited by P4 schools in the middle of the season. He was frustrated that his staff puts in all the time to develop kids that didn't get P4 offers initially and by the time they are ready to start at UNI and be key contributor other schools are just poaching them in the portal.

It's got to be frustrating to coach at FCS schools these days because any time you hit a home run on a diamond in the rough that no one else was offering out of HS they just leave for a bigger school to get paid. NIL and the portal basically just turned college athletics in the minor leagues and FCS schools are basically the minor leagues for FBS now too. As a fan the portal is a double edge sword because when you bring in someone from another school that helps your team you are excited but on the flip side of that you also lose players you have grown to like sometimes too. Would be nice to reign it in a little and have players sign contracts like coaches and pro athletes do so they can't just up and leave at any moment. It's at a point it feels like you have an entirely new roster of players to get to know every year now because there is no longer the loyalty to stay at the school you originally committed to.

Sorry, longer rant than I intended and I have a lot more of that pent up I could write about too...
Honestly, if the Big 12 can't put together a deal to bring in lots of money, it could become a feeder league to the SEC and Big10.

I thought that's what all the last round of TV money and realignment was actually all about.

What real options would they have besides transferring down a level? They don’t have any game tape. Stay and compete for a P4 starting job
KSU would probably take Manske. Klein recruited him hard when he was at KSU before and Texas A&M. Manske not playing over Becht as a true freshman this year isn't going to deter them, or others, I wouldn't think.

Any quarterback, Becht included, is going to want to really understand the offense Roehl has planned for them before committing to returning. At least Rocco has the pull of all the ISU records/absolute legend status in Ames for life that he would earn by leading the team next year. I just don't know about the other guys.

My reasoning is that are we 100% sure Moberly and Manske are staying put?

Nobodies sure any player is staying put at this point. Early days in the Jimmy Rogers regime and House/NIL money has to complicate discussions. No different than what we see in professional free agency- teams offer money to their priorities first. Some agree, some don't and you move on to the next priorities. And I'm sure player agents are touting the money available around college football to starting caliber players, so players will naturally test the market.

In regard to Kohl, I would have a tough time believing the Cyclones would want the 4th best QB on ISU's roster the last couple years to be the starting QB next season. Being an optimist, if Becht, Moberly or Manske fits the offensive system that Tyler Roehl wants to run at ISU, gotta believe we'd be able to convince at least one to stay. After all, we should be able to offer at least one QB equivalent money they would get elsewhere in the portal.
