***Official portal tracker thread***

You get dismissed from the team when you announce for the portal under Matt Campbell, remember.
Penn St message boards and Twitter is blowing up after their freshman QB announces portal. They’re saying “portal and NIL is ruining football.”

I reassured them that they haven’t seen anything yet. CBS, LBs, and RBs coming too.

That bunch was capable of losing to Colorado. They will be capable of losing to the Northwesterns and Minnesotas of the conference.
That's the thing... PSU fans should go back and watch our season... and remind themselves every day this offseason that that's what they will be watching next fall. It is NOT the level of football you are used to folks.

We are bringing in 3 star transfers and signing 3 star recruits. The only thing different is we would have 3 star recruits who want to play at Iowa State. Better than paying for academics, room and board and a state of the art training facility for players who don't want to be at Iowa State.

Your 'guys who just want to be at Iowa State' crowd is going to be pretty limited.

Please stop the nasty banter.

WELCOME JAMAL!! You have made a great decision.

This young man has a confirmed 10.8 or 10.81 100 meters as a JUNIOR. He would
have been one of our fastest players in 2025. I am watching Oregon destroy Tech with quick twitch athletes. WELCOME JAMAL!!!!!!!!
That’s fast, but nearly full stride behind Flora (which is nuts).

If the portal didn't open until after spring practice, all 2025 roster players would be still on Iowa State campus going to class, attending S&C and spring practice under Jimmy Rogers.

Take the emotion & urgency out of the equation for kids to enter the portal on Jan 2. Let kids experience a new staff or see where they fit on the depth chart. Even if they are at a school that doesn't go through a coaching change.

Comparing college & NFL is often apples to oranges. But from a calendar and not creating conflicting priorities, colleges could learn from the NFL.

And yes, having a CBA and a powerful single Commissioner does help.
Maybe a few more would stay, but neither the players nor the coaches would like it.

Players are still going to know if they are going to transfer so they would just sit out practice.

Coaches would rather be coaching the team they are going to be putting on the field, not a bunch of guys who won't.

Now if you said transfers couldn't participate in any team activities until June, then maybe it could work, but more than likely, spring practices would just get eliminated.

Move the portal back a couple months would accomplish most of it. A rule would have to be put into place with penalties by the NCAA or conferences to prohibit coaching moves until Feb. 1. I agree that is a more difficult part. But I do think the urge to jump out early on firing and hiring would be largely reduced if the player part of things wasn't right upon them at the same time. At least every coach that was hired away would still be there with their staff to complete a season in a bowl game.

The issue with moving it back is the academic calendar.

The reverse elitism is pretty sad. Our best 10-12 guys are definitely good enough to win at Penn State. I’m upset that they and the staff left, but everyone acting like our best era of football is substandard at a higher level program is a self own.
That is one way to look at it. You could also view the other way which is that Penn State is not the big step up they think they are. It's all about expectations.

The players MIGHT be.... but not with the same coaches.

Agree they can win there. But are they good enough to set them for a NC? That’s what Campbell’s boss and the delusional fans there expect. And if Campbell brings too many ISU guys (beyond our best dozen) he may be really setting himself up for criticism.

Next year, no, but if surrounded by other solid players, they can get that program off to a good start
