***Official March Madness Thread***

The last place Big XII team was the last team to beat the potential National Champs. That really says something about the depth.

Goes to show ISU had a team capable of making the Final Four by beating Tech in Lubbock and nearly beating them again in Ames. Unfortunately for us, we also proved we were capable of losing to the worst teams as well.

On the one hand i see this. On the other hand it definitely seems like the tourney has been called in a way that allows much more physical play, and i'm not sure its just our inconsistency that would have kept us out given that.

Completely agree. They are really letting them bang and hence part of the low scores. That I was not a good thing for our small team.

We needed to basically be Auburn, who got some really hot shooting and some luck (New Mexico State 1st Rd missing 2 of 3 free throws at the end that would have sent Auburn home). We had the capability to have a night where we shot very well from the 3-point arc. Had our guys gutted one out against Ohio State shooting as poorly as we did, who knows? Maybe we go all KSU in Manhattan on Houston in the 2nd Rd and rain three's. But in the end, there's no denying you need to be a very good defensive team to expect to go far in March. It's been that way for some time.

Chris Beard is 9-2 in the NCAA Tournament. Here are the 15 coaches that have coached in 11 or more tournament games that won at least 9 of their first 11:
  • Ed Jucker 11 (Cincinnati 11-0)
  • Phil Woolpert 11 (San Francisco 11-0)
  • Steve Fisher 10 (Michigan 10-1)
  • Henry Iba 10 (Oklahoma State 10-1)
  • Fred Taylor 10 (Ohio State 10-1)
  • Phog Allen 9 (Kansas 9-2)
  • Chris Beard 9 (Arkansas-Little Rock 1-1, Texas Tech 8-1)
  • P.J. Carlesimo 9 (Seton Hall 9-2)
  • Tom Izzo 9 (Michigan State 9-2)
  • Doggie Julian 9 (Holy Cross 5-1, Dartmouth 4-1)
  • Bob Knight 9 (Indiana 9-2)
  • Branch McCracken 9 (Indiana 9-2)
  • Frank McGuire 9 (St. John's 5-2, North Carolina 4-0)
  • Pete Newell 9 (California 9-2)
  • Adolph Rupp 9 (Kentucky 9-2)

Winston is the type of pg that I hope Jackson can become. Of course, Winston was a top-30 guy out of high school.

Great jobs by Izzo and Beard this year.

Nah.

It was the inconsistency.

Refs were weird in ISU's one tourney game, but it was ISU's inconsistency and cluelessness that lost it, nothing more.

You can say that for that one game, but i'm saying that it wouldnt have just been our inconsistency working against us as far as going on a deep run.

Even though Shaka looks like he's hanging on, is Texa$ still Beard's most likely landing spot?

I would think so but not until next year because of Shaka’s buyout.
At that point I think Arizona tries to make a move.
