*** Official ISU vs. Western Illinois Postgame Thread ***

I'd really like to see ISU do a little bit better than just bowl eligibility this year. Would like to see us get over the 6 win hump this year. Would love to see 8+ wins. The D is certainly good enough for it - the real question is will the offense be good enough to not continuously hang the D out to dry?

Agreed, 7-9 wins are possible, Jantz is clearly the right choice to take the job from what I saw on the field, but to get those "extra" wins beyond 6 he has to stop looking like a Freshman QB on 3-4 plays per game. I don't care if he goes for 100% of his passes, turnovers are going to limit the potential of what could be the best Iowa State most of have seen with our own eyes

the fumble wasnt good, but im not putting that pick on jantz... if it hits the receivers hands it should be caught... at the very least not volleyballed up into the air for the defense... other than that jantz ran the offense pretty well... penalties hurt us though... barnett looked pretty awful and richardson, even though we didnt see him throw a pass (would have liked to) looked pretty solid...

good win!! our D is excellent! nealy and standard are gonna be studs! i would like to see more passes to the TEs, particularly ernst brun. tiller is looking like a nice target. lenz hasnt caught many passes the last 2 games, hope that is nothing to worry about

Barnett did nothing more than give confidence to the fan base that Jantz is the right guy, but Jantz has got to get better in the run game IMO and of course not turn it over, if he can do that - this team can be special

Everyone who wanted Barnett.. You can now shut your mouth!

Jantz is the guy and there is no arguing that.

That being said, great win! Nice to see everyone get some PT tonight, our future is really bright! finally have some depth everywhere. ESPECIALLY the D-Line, really fell in love with the rotation tonight.

Standard/Nealy are going to be BEASTS!

If our offense continues down this path, our defense is going to hung out to dry in a lot of games this year. Too careless with the football on too many drives tonight. Wasn't terribly impressed with Barnett's throws, seems almost like he's regressed since last season, thought he was good on the zone read. Disappointed when we Richardson got put in and we didn't get to see him throw. He made some really good reads/runs alongside Standard though. Despite Jantz's shortcomings/mistakes, it's pretty obvious he's our guy this season. Really looking forward to our future with Standard/Nealy, those guys look unbelievable.

If there's such a thing as an underwhelming 30 point blowout, this was it. Hats off to the defense though, we really showcased our depth and skill on that side of the ball tonight.

I think Jantz played pretty well. Great if not for the fumble. The pass that was intercepted would've hit Jarvis West in stride for that 3rd and long conversion, but Gary ran the wrong route and got in the way. It would have been a perfect pass to West, but ended up an interception.

1. Defense is outstanding!

2. QB play is still below average. Another 2 turnovers by Jantz, and one by Barnett. Not acceptable at all.

3. Running game needs to improve- Shontrelle could use a few pointers from White on how to run north and south.

4. Nealy looks to be the real deal. That's good.

5. Sam Richardson might just be our starter next year if he can throw at all. Barnett showed why Jantz is the starter. Barnett just REALLY struggles getting the ball to the receiver on time and on target.

6. Sam Richardson the CB is going to be a flat out stud for us IMO.

7. David Irving still has a LONG ways to go folks. Coaches left him in the entire game basically. Just to get him as many reps as possible probably. He has a lot to learn yet.

8. Some of our young OL are pretty darn good. Dagel and Graham especially.

9. If we continue to lose the turnover battle like we did against Iowa and tonight against WIU, we will struggle mightily in the Big 12. We used to thrive on winning the turnover battle years ago. Now we're on the losing end more often than not.

10. Oops... almost forgot... Jansen Watson is a stud.

3 players that are going to be studs in my opinion that we saw tonight are Kenneth Lynn, Devondrick Nealy, and Brock Dagel (I may be slightly biased on Dagel because he's from my hometown).

I had to watch it on game cast also. At first I was a tad worried that the offense wasn't doing enough, but as the game rolled on, I was very happy with what I saw. The things that I didn't like--the turnovers, the penalties, etc. are things we've seen before but we already know that those are problems and I have complete faith the players are beating themselves up about these already, so I trust they'll resolve these issues. So I'm not going to waste time worrying about that. In the end, I'm feeling very good about our present and future teams.

From what I perceived, Jared Barnett performed well. I'm glad he we have him.

No, QB Sam Richardson didn't show his arm, but if I recall correctly he ran for a first down and did orchestrate a touchdown. That was his first time on the field at Jack Trice. That's a profound first step in his career here. He will remember it always. He performed well.

A lot of young guys got playing time and it seemed like they played ferociously solid. We have a good team now and the future looks bright. Thank you Coach Rhoads!

When Jantz is decisive, he looks impressive...hard to say if that first drive in the 3rd quarter looked so good because of his decision making, or if the first reads were all there. We won't win many in the Big XII if he can't make better decisions.

uhhhh....

Whoa, just saw that the attendance was 55,783. That's impressive.

It's going to be tough getting three conference wins with this QB play. Jantz looked better tonight, but both looked like ****. I would love to have seen QB Richardson throw just one time.
