What’s the status of Omaha Biliew?
There are plenty of updates regarding the Waukee 2023 wing, a top-five national prospect on his way to potential five-star status.
I texted this week with some folks in Biliew's camp. Tyler Sass, Biliew's trainer, told me Biliew is up to 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds, and he has improved in his 3-point shooting over the season. Biliew, who played for Dowling Catholic in high school ball and Beyond Ball in AAU last year, will play in AAU for MOKAN Elite next summer. MOKAN Elite is the 2019 Nike Peach Jam champion, with recent alumni including young NBA stars Michael Porter Jr. and Trae Young.
In terms of interested schools, Sass told me Biliew's camp continues to hear regularly from Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery and assistant coach Sherman Dillard.
But a new name has reached out within the past month.
And it's a big one: Kentucky head coach John Calipari.
"(Coach Calipari) is very interested in O and has given some great insight for him throughout this process," Sass told me. " ... The calls from Cal changed his focus and recruitment big time."
How so? Well, Biliew's coaches at MOKAN Elite asked if he wanted to also get in contact with North Carolina and Kansas.
"O said, 'No, let’s focus on a state championship. Then we can do that,'" Sass said.
Biliew currently holds offers from Iowa, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan and Western Kentucky.
