Couldn't they put him on Ignore list? Seriously, he had good info and sometimes you have to put up with a little to get a peek of the workings behind the curtain.

Just because something is negotiable doesn't mean the big 12 will give on the money issue. They hold all the cards. Everyone signed away their tv rights freely and I don't think the big 12 will be in a charitable mood if teams leave

How many teams does it take to dissolve the conference rendering any GoR void as the conference doesn't exist anymore?

I am not a lawyer but this is how one of Creighton's law professors explained it to me. There would be two avenues to approach dissolving the conference.
The first path would be to work inside the framework of the current bylaws. That would require over a 2/3 vote or 7 of the 10 members voting to amend the bylaws to dissolve the conference.
The second path would involve working within the framework of the incorporation laws in the state of Delaware (Where the Big 12 is incorporated). That would require a simple majority vote or 6 of the 10 members voting to dissolve the corporation.
Either path offers different levels of protection from lawsuits for damages from members hurt by dissolving the conference.
He then went on to explain that dissolving the conference may not be enough to void the GOR.
That part is really hard to explain. Boils down to the GOR was signed in conjunction with the TV contract and each school had to go back to its governing body to get approval and sign the GOR. It could be argued that it is a separate contract between 13 parties, ESPN, Fox Sports, The Big 12, and individually each of the 10 schools that could be enforced outside the existence of the Big 12. He then added those famous words "It depends on the wording of the contract".
His bottom line summary went something like this. It comes down to how good your lawyers are and which judge is hearing the case. You wont know the final results until a couple years after someone pulls the trigger and it is not clear what the final result would be.

Yes it does. Your explanation of the GoR possibly being ironclad even without a conference is kind of the thought I had.
I'm about 97% sure that that guy thinks he knows about 3x that which he actually knows. He's been a part of the Big 12 for about five minutes and he's as insufferable as Chip Brown.
A lot of rumors will come out today on the future of the ACC. I remind everyone that those same rumors existed for the Big 12 and look where we are today.
TheDudeofWV no doubt has contacts in the WVU AD's office, but understand that WVU has been pushing the conference to expand since they joined. It is in WVU's best interest to destabilize the ACC and that can be done by putting out doomsday scenarios from "insiders". His contacts want the rumors and information out to create a public outcry which hopefully pushes fans to put pressure on their university's leaders.
It all must be taken with a grain of salt.
Edit: Also, TheDudeofWV has been absolutely wrong on everything he has predicted this season in regards to WVU football. So, I'm not sure I'd trust any of his predictions on other things anyway.

After listening to his explanation, I am not sure I would use the word "Ironclad" to describe the GOR. It is questionable just how far words on a piece of paper can compel someone to act in a certain way.
I did come away with the impression that someone would have to REALLY want out of the conference and another conference would have to REALLY want someone to jump off that cliff.
No matter what the final result is, it would cost EVERYONE a LOT of MONEY to go down that path and that may be enough to keep people from jumping.
EDIT: Just to be clear, I am talking about the Big 12. The ACC situation is different can of worms.

AllI can say is that I am quite happy that ISU is safe as a baby in the arms of the Big12....as realingment armageddon is upon us once again.
Was he? It just as easily looks like the PAC, which as i recall required unanimous agreement to expand, couldnt get the votes to do so. A lot of reasons not to. Loss of traditional games that many existing pac members were already complaining about. Colorado wouldnt want to lose the california play-time it had just jumped for. Not willing to concede on the LHN. Etc. No proof was ever offered that there was any bluff going on. I think they were fully ready to go, but the PAC didn't have the votes.
At least for this round. I hope that the big 12 makes the moves that make us likely to still be in a great position when it comes time to renew our grant of rights in the 2020s. Now that the ACC door appears back open its time to strike. Florida state is objective #1.
