***Official Big 12 Expansion Thread '16***

Those who have predicted doom aren't changing their mind. They will just say it is doomed after the end of the GOR. If the GOR is extended it will be doomed after that. I think based on Pollards comments the other night on the call-in show, we will have good news coming, but I practice cautious optimism.
Cautious Optimism should be a 300 level course at Iowa State

Anywhere to listen to this call-in show? I would like to hear what he had to say. Or you could give me cliff notes :)

What were his comments? For the life of me I can't find anything

Pollard on Murph and Andy a little while ago. Regarding expansion and potential teams being discussed, I thought it was interesting that he stated (paraphrasing), "it's kinda like a coaching search, in that those teams that aren't being talked about are those that you should be thinking about."

No, there is no way to interpret an extension (GOR) other than its great news. In fact I don't care if we add Hutchinson CC and Indian Hills as long as there is an extension.

Just get me to 2035 like the ACC.

So then, Arizona, Arizona St, BYU, and Colorado State? No one is talking about those old rumors anymore.

Temple, Memphis, UCF, and UConn to the big 12, confirmed.

I listened to the whole call-in show and I didn't hear anything where he said he was optimistic. He pretty much deflected and gave meaningless answers. That's all he really can do, I would guess.

That is how I heard this too, but I'm more confused than ever. This comment means that Cincy, BYU, UCONN, Houston aren't as likely as everybody else speculated.

Those Clemson, Florida State rumors have been long forgotten. Have all the ACC schools signed on the dotted line for the new TV/GOR deal?

Seriously though, a quote like this would seem to toss out BYU, UH, Cincy, and UConn, those guys have been the likely top 4 of every journalist, blogger, twitter hack, etc. I don't think any of the other mid-major candidates are even worth considering, so to me that has to imply P5 options.

I got an A in Optimism 301. Unfortunately, I've taken Kicked in the Nuts 501 too many times to count. Of course at ISU, Kicked in the Nuts is a grad level course.

A swift kick to the left nut should be part of orientation day.....

I didn't take it to mean that all of those teams would be out of contention, just that maybe there are a few teams out there that you could add to that mix that no one is really talking about.

I don't read it the same way; in fact I would guess that JP's comment is really only related to Houston.

I think that UConn has been in the news much less than I would have otherwise expected, and Cincy has stayed under the radar too. To the extent that JP means more than just "Don't believe what you hear about UH," it wouldn't surprise me that he was still talking about some of the more well-known candidates like them.

I'd love to be dazzled if Big 12 made a surprise choice (to join the foregone-conclusion Houston), as long as it isn't a "bad surprise" choice.

So, like a stunner (Arizona State), quietly off-radar (New Mexico) as opposed to Boise State, USF, Temple. (Random examples).

Anything outside of UH, BYU, Cincy would be unexpected.
