Ah, pulling the old 4-team expansion plan, I see.
Even though it'll be 2 or none, if any "expert" source is reliable, I'd like to see it go to 14 just to throw a wrench into expectations.
If the Big 12 does expand to 12 I wonder if that will bring a 22-game conference basketball schedule. It seems unlikely but it would be pretty awesome.

It certainly seems like until the ACC deal happened there legitimately was no plan for expansion. And even now we don't know if this is a bluff to get more money out of Fox/ESPN or serious expansion consideration.
I don't get why the Big 12 would make an announcement of conference expansion on Saturday. Wouldn't it just get lost with all the excitement of opening day kickoff? It makes more sense to announce Thursday or Friday. That way it dominates the discussion and then suddenly that Houston-Oklahoma game (assuming Houston is getting an invite) adds more intrigue on a national stage.
BYU also plays @ West Virginia September 24, and no TV has been set for that game yet. An announcement that BYU is joining the Big 12 sometime this week would make that game a little more interesting for the networks to broadcast to a larger audience.

Given the history of the Big IIXII, that is most certainly the case.
I really fail to see how BYU/Houston is better than BYU/Cincy in any way. I mean I can't think of a single reason. The SEC is not going to grab Houston, Baylor or Tech, and if the SEC grabs OU or Texas the Big 12 is over anyway. There is zero reason to "further lock down" Texas.
If it's Houston's current football success Cincy has had years like that within the past decade anyway. If BYU is the other team it's hard to argue geographic reasons when they're further outside the footprint than Cincy.

If the addition of Houston gets the Cows to extend the GOR. That really has to be the major benefit.
Put me in the not excited about any option camp. BYU is Baylor 2.0. Houston has a large upside, but no one is beating down their door. Cincinnati....ehh.
I've posted (at least) twice now in this thread why Houston would be a more attractive candidate than Cincinnati to the TV partners. The TV partners are the ones paying the bill. **If** Houston is getting in, then that's who the TV partners are willing to pay for. It isn't about locking down Texas, it's about making money (although those two things may go hand in hand). The TV people know who is watching and who isn't watching in each market, and they know what the potential of each market is.

I don't care if we add the entire rest of the SWC if it gets the GOR extended out until the mid 2030s or later. But if the GOR isn't extended then I'm not a fan of any expansion at all.
I don't think Houston is locked down as much as we thought. B12 TV ratings have been plummeting in Houston since A&M's exit, along with the rise of Houston as a legit top 20 program.

Houston gets viewers right now because they're a hot story and are winning. The moment that isn't the case their viewership and stadium attendance are going to drop like a rock. Watch what happens to Baylor this year if they drop a couple of early games, it'll be the same thing.
Once Texas is back in the top 10 those will change.
I'm not sure Houston in the Big12 is going to make people in that market stop watching SEC games.
Texas is *spoiler alert* way bigger than Iowa. There are multiple markets...and just having a Texas Team...or multiple Texas teams doesn't mean we own that market. Houston itself has nearly the same population as Iowa.
The Houston MSA population is almost 6.5 million Texans.
That's roughly the population of Iowa and Kansas combined.
