***OFFICIAL #9 ISU DEFEATS #7 BAYLOR POSTGAME THREAD***

This team is something else. Really didn't expect this coming into the season.

Really exceeding my expectations, especially considering we lost BuBu, Mel's Knee and had to replace 6-guys from last year. Also, this is a Bay team that beat Kentucky a month ago and has a win over Colorado.

Not sure how we're gonna respond at OU; that will be a tough test, then turn around and play KU two days later

+ Kane 6-TO's and 9 assists.

+ Monte another 27--mins without a TO and probably his best game to date; 5-8 shooting (3-4 trey) and 4-assists.

+ Was Georges sick tonight? Very quiet for him, did not seem on his game. 9-pts, 4-fouls

+ Not much production from Thomas.

+ Did that look like #7 vs #9 to you?
They have a bunch of good interior defenders on that team. They are a good shot blocking team. I think if Niang had his three pointer going, he would have been more effective.

Wow.. Drew just said we are a national title contender.

When asked about Drew mentioning Iowa State as a national title contender, Hoiberg asked him to repeat the question. Then when asked again, Hoiberg laughed and asked him to repeat the question again!

MONTE stepped up big to make up for Niangs slow night. Great game all around. I can see where some 7 footers could give us trouble down low, but as long as the shots keep falling outside it wont matter. 2000-2001 was a good team, this one may be a touch better.

Whoa, whoa. Time will tell, but that team won the Big XII regular season and tournament. They also were one step away from winning the NC.

This team is good, but they've got much more to do to reach the level of 2000 - 2001. Tonight was a great start!

Watching the game again. Just about to halftime. ASide from Kane playing incredible, a couple of notes...
Morris is really shooting with a lot of confidence
Thomas looked good too
Percy passed the ball.

99-00 team won the tourney. 00-01 team was one and done at conference tourney then Hampton happened.

Percy didn't get in for too long, but was solid while in there. I think there was a reason he was in today. Hope he keeps up the good work.

Correction--it was '99-00 team that was legit. '00-01 peaked in February and tanked at the end.

But yeah...I was just thinking about how good the '99-00 team was, and while this team has been surprisingly god, I just can't get to that place to put them next to a serious elite team that played in an era where every decent player didn't bolt for the NBA after one season.

Thomas looks a lot more comfortable and ready to start becoming a serious threat. Not sure where he was in the 2nd half.

They were playing zone with their big guys inside. Not advantageous for Niang. But there were some good holes for Kane to get his shot.

Later in the game they switched to more man and they were able to Iso Georges more and let him take it down the court some.

Drew should have called a time out there when the score was hanging around ten, and then moving up over ten. The Baylor team lost their composure. At the first sign of that he should have called a time out.

You expected Drew to manage his timeouts properly and make good coaching decisions?

00-01 was a great team, they just imploded at the end of the season. LE lost them. Paul Shirley has written some interesting stories about that season.

Shirley surely has some interesting tweets about ISU basketball these days. Sounds like he's back on board, though. :skeptical:

Iowa State wins! It's fun when the Good guys overlap with the good Guys. Paul Shirley (@paulthenshirley)
