Wonder if this will impact replay review in other sports where in real time the on field official makes no call but in slow motion zoom in a foul can be called.
I looked at how they did it. It is legit. Obscure rule. But legit.Huge news. I assume there's precedent for this?
As the link says it is suspended for a year. It can be retroactively applied late if he commits another infraction of similar proportion. From the link:
"Additionally, the code explains: "If the person benefiting from a suspended sanction commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension shall be revoked by the judicial body and the sanction enforced without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement."
Is this now treated as a yellow card or is the slate wiped clean?
Has this happened with other key players on red cards in previous World Cups and/or big tournaments? I don't really pay attention outside of the USMNT.I looked at how they did it. It is legit. Obscure rule. But legit.

Happened to Cristiano Ronaldo on a 3 game suspension. That would have had him miss the last qualifier and 2 world cup games.Has this happened with other key players on red cards in previous World Cups and/or big tournaments? I don't really pay attention outside of the USMNT.
I'm just glad fifa doesn't need to send an apology letter. I have enough of those. That's the whole point - by rules VAR isn't supposed to be able to call down the ref's attention based on slowed down and cherry-picked frames to issue a red card when not only was no yellow card issued, but when the ref didn't even issue a warning.
In other words, Balogun shouldn't have been given the red card in the first place
The cynical side of me (yes, there is another side) says the precedent is $$ to be made the longer USA stays in the tournament. I realize that from a viewership standpoint US fans make make up a not huge portion of world audience - but I would think their are many more $$ behind each US viewer. Not to mention the long term revenue for FIFA if the US becomes more invested in the game.Huge news. I assume there's precedent for this?
