***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

Bill Gallus recently gave an interesting lecture about the derecho and discussed why it wasn't forecast ahead of time.

He's introduced about 5min into this:

Thanks for posting this. I was interested in going to that lecture but wasn't able to make it.

I'm absolutely fine with that - the 5 year old is horrified of "tomatoes" (working with her on saying tornados right, but also don't want to rush the childhood).
I'm 30 and am horrified whenever I see tomatoes........ on my sandwiches after requesting them to remove them when I order Jimmy Johns.

Rain totals for the Cedar Rapids area in regards to Friday went down yesterday...but now they are back over an inch. That is on top of all the rain already this week...yikes! Hope people's sump pumps are working well!

Not sure Ive ever seen more hype for a tornado outbreak than tomorrow. Question is, will central Iowa be under the gun, or not. Keep seeing conflicting info about that part.

Hopefully it's a little reverse psychology like when there's hype for a snow storm and the hope of a snow day is high until it snows 2 inches and is done by 6 PM.

Round 3 tomorrow. Awesome. Had rotation go directly overhead the bar I was at last night, thought we were gonna have to take shelter in the store room. Nothing came of it though.

HRRR not really screaming severe weather outbreak. Especially not strong tornadoes as it currently has everything quickly going linear with no real discrete cells. Hail and wind are likely the main threats today and someone is going to get a lot of rain.
