***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

Her friend has her convinced that it will be a non-issue because Minnesota is better at clearing snow.
Not sure how anyone is going to keep up with moving snow, with the amounts they're talking, and the wind speeds they are talking. Hell, gusts over 40 most of the day Sunday? Would be terrible driving with a few inches of snow, let alone what they are forecasting right now.

Currently trying to talk my wife out of visiting friends in the Twin Cities this weekend...

Would be prudent to stay home IMHO considering the snow depth and wind forecast. Wind seems to be "just" a bit under giving it the full Dairy Queen moniker (aka Blizzard).

This storm will paralyze the Twin Cities. Only saving grace is it is happening on a weekend with the worst conditions happening overnight. This may be the worst storm to hit the area since the storm that collapsed the metrodome. It shouldn't take much convincing if she is reasonable

We're at the tourney in KC and watching the weather closely since we're planning on driving back to MN tomorrow morning. Eek.
Leave early and you should be OK. We left Wed. for KC just before 7 a.m. and snow had just started. Had to wait a few minutes in Slater for more daylight because we couldn’t see the center line with snow blowing right at us.

EDIT: we’re leaving for home (Ames) Sunday morning when it is completely daylight. Hope this isn’t eventually filed under “famous last words.”

My retort for that would be maybe, but they still drive like Minnesotans.
Better than half of Iowans. And yes - MN is better at removing snow. And this is coming from someone born in IA, lived in MN for 10 years, and moved back.

KIMT now shows 3-5" for us, NWS says 1-2" Saturday night, 7-11" Sunday, Wunderground has 4". Last graphic on Facebook, which is a NWS updated map, has 6"-17".

Uhhh, so 1-20"?
