Fall of '73 was worse than '93 where I grew up. Around 18" in 48 hours mid-September will do that. We had to wait for a hard freeze in December to finish up.
Fall of 72, went home on weekends to help dad harvest. Finished some in march after snow melted and groin froze

Yep my brother came home from the service and hauled ear corn in for dad. I was in7th grade and not much help that time of year during the week.

You are correct. It WAS ‘72, not’73. Horrible fall.

Sorry to hear about that frozen groin.

My friends dad had a sale barn, we were in stock tanks floating the aisles of the sale barn with boards for paddles in September. Cattle were running loose around the countryside. Farmers ended up loosing some or maybe gaing some depending on if their lots were on the bottoms or hillsides. I forgot all about that, I think Dad gained one if I recall correctly.

I remember gaining a pretty decent basketball. Nothing alive though.

2009 we had a similar scenario. Wet fall with an early snow. We finished our final 80 acres in March. Was pleasantly surprised in how well it made it through the winter.

2013 was similar, wet fall, finished up in December after a very cold snap that let us get back in on some down corn from Labor Day storm.

I dont want to see either of those scenarios ever again!!
