I hate sirens. No reason to sound them in Huxley. The cry wolf mentality is very real and we're desensitizing people to a real threat by sounding them when there isn't one.
Heard they also went in Ankeny too.
My Unpopular Opinion is that all sirens should go away. I despise them. The only way I'd get behind keeping them is if there was a uniform reason for sounding for all communities in the entire state *and* they're geolocated/automatic.

I mowed this afternoon. the difference in sweat between when the sun was out and when it was behind a cloud was unreal. instant sweat.
Walked out around 7:20p here in north Ankeny, and saw a gorgeous cloud anvil to the southeast. Checked my weather app, and guessing I was seeing the storm just north of Albia. By the time I got a chance to take a decent pic, the anvil was surrounded by what I would call high-level fog? I mean, they were clouds, but not sure of all the types.
I probably missed it but I don't recall expecting rain today and NE Ankeny is in the midst of a torrential downpour.

That thing came out of nowhere. Swear it was sunny and 5 minutes later my whole place shook from thunder

No fair, you didn't qt the part where I said I probably missed it.
Farmers can't win. Swear it's either drought or downpours which do them no favors and floods their fields.
They definitely won plenty the last few years though. I know plenty of farmers that had record yields in some of these dry years. The hybrids now have so much tolerance to drought.
I’ve had over 9.5” of rain in July so far and over 17” of rain since June 1. Wettest July I ever remember. (I was 1 in 1993).
