***Official 2025 Weather Thread***

My kids school in central Iowa is getting out 2 hours early, but the weather apps I use keep showing a very, very small percentage chance for precipitation.
Schools are in a cant win situation with weather, and ice is the worst. The roads can be fine and then 30 minutes of ice or freezing rain and they are a skating rink. Better to be safe than sorry, not only for the kids but for the teachers and staff that may live outside the district.

I didn't mean it as a criticism. I'm all for "rather safe than sorry". I'm just trying to figure out if we are going to get anything here.

Truth. The Influenza A going around is no joke.

I don't think I've been this sick at any point in my adult life.
my symptoms have been this the last 3 1/2 weeks

small cough
stuffed nose
sore throat

few day break

scratchy throat
full on cough
stuffed up AF now

its been so fun. as i sit here and type this my right eye is watering

Same....It's been over a week and a half and I'm "better" except for the fatigue. The fatigue is real.

I came down with it last week. I slept for damn near 36 hours straight. The body and head aches were absolutely brutal.

I've still got the cough, chest congestion, fatigue and a weird sensitivity to light going on.

Not quite as bad as having salmonella awhile back but easily number two on my list.

I'm in the 3rd day of a fever, headaches have finally calmed down a little bit but my vision is still a little blurry. I can't do anything for more than 10 minutes before I have to take a break and every single orifice in my head is just constantly running.

It's the worst I can remember. Way worse than COVID.

I'm so confused also. My app shows nothing, but my MIL in Osceola says it's already freezing rain. We just got the school's our email as well.

For everyone talking about being sick, did you get the flu shot this year?
I can only answer your question tangentially... I got the 'rona a couple weeks ago. Once we knew what it was, my doc strongly suggested getting a flu shot this year once I was healthy. She said the number of cases shes seeing was other worldly.

I'm glad you asked, because I was curious too! My husband works in healthcare, so we always get ours, kids included. No flu (yet?) in our house, but we've been really careful about handwashing, not to mention I mask when teaching and our oldest masks at schools due to being immunocompromised. I do know that one of my husband's coworkers had the flu in December and felt pretty crummy despite getting a flu shot, but I don't think it knocked him out as long as some as some folks were saying here.

Started misting/snowing a bit in WDM. I was downtown DSM earlier for a farm show- it was light mist when I left.

Back to weather, work just announced that we are closing at 2 PM today and classes will be virtual this afternoon. I'm relieved, because sometimes they move classes online without closing offices, which means we just end up stuck here.
