Yeah, i went to go grab something for dinner and it was definitely a bit slick on Ankeny roads. Not sure how much prep the ankeny crews got in. With this big storm being so early and with thanksgiving I'm guessing prep will be lacking in a lot of places.
So, think I should try to make the run up to Ames for the volleyball game tomorrow afternoon?
The plow guy is going to come by the house at 6:30 AM so my wife can leave for work (nonnegotiable, somebody has to be at the helm at the ER at all times and her bad luck it is during a blizzard) to knock back the snow to that point. She's taking our only 4x4 vehicle. I'd only have access to my 2023 Sonata.
I live near the West Mixmaster in Waukee, so I'd either have to make my way east on 35/80 or 235 through Des Moines before heading north on 80 or sneak in the "back way" on 141, 17, and US-30 east into Ames. I'd need to leave around noon, which gives it more time to snow but more time for services to catch up.

I saw a rumor on Reddit that Ankeny isn't planning on doing any plowing until Sunday? That would be foolish if true; hopefully just bad info.
It would totally check out for Ankeny. Plowing sucks ass here every year.
You sound like someone who knows what they’re doing. A 2023 Sonata should be totally fine for a non-novice, but I’d avoid “back ways” personally (and I’m a ******* great driver). Stick to the interstates.
I grew up in Iowa and learned to drive on icy cold roads in an old (manual) Escort and FWD Cavalier.
I'm not too scared of it -- but know it is nonetheless taking a calculated risk.
My wife is neither a confident nor experienced winter driver whatsoever and hence why I'm giving her the four-wheel drive vehicle even though she's just going downtown and I'm aimed toward Ames.
Yeah, I'm usually the first to call bust, but this one doesn't seem like a busy, this seems legit.
I had a 5 speed Escort myself. Loved that car!
My first winter with an unrestricted license, I drove a Mitsubishi Conquest. RWD that had to have 2 sandbags in the back in the summer. We put 5 back there in the winter. Didn’t help at all, but damn it was fun
Be honest you actually found a empty parking lot and spun some donuts didn't you.
Let’s just say I took the long way home. Partially to avoid any 1 degree inclines but also to knock the rear end out a few times. 460 cubic inches of going ******* nowhere.
If I wake up in the morning and we are about the same then I’ll start calling bust lol
