*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

The Tucker situation just seems so weirdly handled to me. I don't really understand the point of bringing him back into the fold today when Caissie has been huge the last couple games. Way more pressure in front of the home crowd vs giving him one more day and bringing him back vs the Angels this weekend.

And nothing against Willi Castro but sitting Shaw when he's literally been the heart and soul of the team over the past 3 games also is just super head scratching.

Regardless, the team drew 8 walks today, 5 hits, and a HBP. That equating to 1 run is just really, really bad baseball.

The next 21 games, and 27 of the last 34 are against teams below .500. Great chance to stack some wins up and at least get that top wildcard spot. Division probably out of reach unless Brewers go on a bit of a losing streak

I said before the game that sitting both Cassie and Shaw today and starting Tucker and Castro made ZERO sense. But he did it, and shocking…it didn’t work.

Would love to understand the why behind so many of his moves. Because most make no sense.

Don’t look to hard for an explanation. All you’ll ever get from Craig is “well we needed to score more runs than we did so that we could have more runs than the other team because that’s how you win a baseball game, but we will see how tomorrow goes” or another similarly enlightening statement.

At what point if there is one should Tuckers spot in the lineup be evaluated on a more consistent basis?

He should of gone to the IL when they found out about his hand and he had the drop in production and let him heal and get him right then. Sitting just 2 games isn't going to "reset" him but we're probably past the point of an IL stint if its healed and its a mechanics issue with his swing now. He's hit just 1 HR since July 1. Even the bench players that play sparingly can luck into a dinger in a 1.5 month span. If you are competing for a spot in the postseason and you have a guy in the heart of you lineup that has not been producing for nearly 2 months now you kind of have to sit him more until he gets hot again regardless of what he's done previously.

I'm at the point I hope they don't try to sign him in the offseason and if I am Tucker I'm not so sure I want to come back either now if they mismanaged his hand injury. Whoever was involved in the decision to let him play through it including Tucker himself has cost him a TON of money going into free agency.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tucker ends up having to take something like Alex Bregman's deal, 3 years @ $40M per year, with an opt out after every year.

People are so dramatic.

500 plate appearances of similar production to Kyle Tucker doesn't make Tyler Soderstrom a better player than him.

I'm sure Kyle Tucker could have asked to go on the IL at any time. I don't think he's upset about his "mismanaged" injury. He's a professional and he wanted to play. It happens in every sport, every year. Yes, I understand the Cubs history of this, but that's a whole different conversation. None of those players are upset that they got to keep playing.

I hope we sign him this offseason and maybe even get him a little cheaper due to this injury and the first prolonged slump of his career.

What would you be willing to sign him for? As on your best offer? I'd still like to resign him too but at what price? Currently I'd do 10 years 250 million which realistically is unlikely as I still think he'll get more.

The Athletic had a rundown of the best FA for this fall and they listed Tucker as #1 on the list. He is going to have a lot of teams bidding for his services.

Tucker is going to get paid and tbh I don't have an issue if we decide to do it (we won't).

His performance the second half of this season is pretty easy to explain/defend with the injury and mechanic changes he made to compensate for it. Plenty of teams that aren't as afraid as our front office will take the chance and pay a guy that's been a pretty elite hitter most of his career. He'll sign with one of the NY's or LA and be great next year and the Cubs fanbase will all be wondering why we didn't re-sign him

I'd go up to that and maybe 40 if at any point he comes out of his current form. If season ended today I'd have hard time making that kinda offer
Yeah I get the hesitation. But for me, he’s got enough of a track record and he’s obviously not been right the last couple months. I’ll take my chances.

8/320 - 9/365 is probably the sweet spot right now. If he goes on a hot streak to end the season the cubs should have no problem be willing to pay 400M

The thing that makes me hesitate spending Ricketts money is I'm not truly sold it's all injury related. He reportedly got hurt June 1st. Went on to have a very good month. Later went on to play in the All Star Game. Surely he'd sit if he wasn't feeling well right? He's a very good player his history does back that up but elite? I don't consider him ever to be a top 10-15 hitter at any time. I guess it depends how you quantify elite. I want Ricketts to eat and know spending this type of money probably comes once or twice in duration of his contract we're discussing 8-10 years. If we decide in his current form that this isn't the one we're going to spend it on that's OK with me. He'll be 33 by time an 8 year deal is only half way through and he might get 10 years. I think people understandably say who else can we get next year if not Tucker? I don't have an answer but didn't think we'd have Tucker this year either. Hopefully he turns it around soon

Would Tucker even want to sign with the Cubs?

-Made a stink in arbitration with him.
-Fans booing him multiple games this year
-“Mismanaged” injury in contract year
