Brewers are flat out better right now. Better hope to get one game this series. Pitching is a problem for the Cubs.
Been watching them a lot. Lot of good arms, they are young, can all run. Going to be tough to keep up to them. Just a young team hitting on all cylinders.

Ian Happ might need a stint on the DL...he's unplayable right now. Either that or move him to 9th.

Gentle reminder that we’ll have 4-6 arms added over the next 3 weeks. The “good” guys have to be used selectively right now because there are so few to use you can’t burn them.

I may be crazy but I’m guessing he’s cost himself millions this month. There was speculation he’d be in the $500M range in June, but superstar bats can’t just disappear for a 20% span of the season.
Tucker is a great player but does not worth $500 million. He is a lifetime.274 hitter with decent power. He hasn’t hit more than 30 home runs in a season and is above average defensively. I would rather sign an elite pitcher with $500 million.

Soroka and Bieber both pitch tonight, so I think the organization will want to look at both outings before making a decision on an SP2. That decision won’t come until tomorrow at the earliest.

You’ll want an idea of what you have available and we’re running short on time, so I think at minimum a reliever (Bird or Iglesias?) is traded to the Cubs today.

There’s more and more smoke around Suarez to the Cubs but I still have a feeling it will be Castro. Cubs will want to know what values they have so maybe they’ll go grab the big fish SP today so they know what they have when comparing Suarez to Castro.

Reliever trade today - 95% chance of happening

Big fish starter - 60% chance of happening

That's great, but the bats are just as big of a problem right now. The score last night was a little misleading-- we didn't hit for ****. I hope I'm wrong but the offense consistency isn't good enough to be a real WS contender.

Bats are bad, but in our 7 losses this month, we’re giving up an average of 8.55 runs per game. I can’t think of any offenses in history that could make up for that.

Pitching is the great equalizer for offensive issues. Don't give up a lot of runs and then your offense doesn't have to press and play from behind to make up for the big hole your pitching put you in. If we don't get at least 1 top end SP and a solid late inning reliever this deadline then that is a massive failure on Hoyer and the front office. I'm fine going after Suarez and/or a bench piece or 2 but if they don't address the pitching through some trades it's not going to matter as the pitching has not been good recently. We knew coming into the season they needed more pitching and they got lucky with some of the bullpen reclamation projects they took on but some of them are starting to regress back to their career means which is a sign we probably got the best stretches out of them we are going to get.

I think they've maxed out on what they are going to get from Flexen, he has been brutal his last 5 outings. Pomeranz has had some rough outing in July too so those 2 could be on the chopping block soon if they acquire some pitching help. Wish they would cut Pressly too but unfortunately, I think they are going to leave him on a long leash and hope he's more like the pitcher he was in April and June and not the terrible pitcher he's been otherwise.

Based on the number of elite pitchers with arm injuries, I would be very nervous to invest $150M in a SP over a long term contract.

I'd rather put money in position players, invest in a solid group of 8 relievers. And rely on farm system to develop SP's.

If I'm signing a FA pitcher it's a 2nd tier guy who an inning eater. Adding a Snell, Coles, Musgrove and Burnes is sexy in free agency- but seems like a lot of the money ends up being spent on injury time.
