We need help with our starting pitching staff, soon, or we'll continue to watch our lead in the Central go away.
Yup, this is not a rotation that is going to scare anyone late in the season or the playoffs. I like Horton's potential and rookies are going to have rough nights once in awhile but if we don't trade for at least 1 upper half of the rotation starter before the deadline I worry about how things could potentially go if we have another injury in the rotation. I think even at this point 1 upper half of the rotation type of pitcher and another solid veteran for the rotation is something the Cubs need to do if they are going all in this year. If you have everyone healthy you can still use Horton as a swing guy in the bullpen to be a spot starter for a double header or multi-inning guy as I am guessing if he stays in the rotation the rest of the season given his injury history he either will hit a wall with fatigue or get hurt.
Shaw has not had a good June either, has hit .173 for the month entering this game with just 1 HR and 3 RBI. Berti may have done better than that playing every day. He needs to get hot fast else a rental 3B may be on the shopping list for the deadline too. We are seeing tonight what they traded away to get Tucker, you don't waste this opportunity with a big bat like Tucker for what you paid to get him and not do whatever you can at the deadline to put this team in a place to compete at the end of the season and into the postseason.
