Seiya doesn't seem to get a consistent strike zone so I'm sure that messes with him a bit but he also at times takes way too many obvious strikes. May need to get more aggressive.

Good throw by PCA to get the guy at the plate to keep it to only a 3 run deficit.

One start does not mean he's ready or the best option to fill the hole in the rotation. Horton has not had a single bad start in Iowa in his 6 starts so far and has not allowed more than 1 run in any of them. Wicks just got lit up on his previous start giving up 9 hits 7 runs in 2.2 innings so 1 good start is not enough for me to want him back up any time soon given his track record and results this year in both Chicago and Iowa. Horton is flat out the better option with more upside right now even if it requires a 40 man roster move.

Wicks very well may be a "4A" player.

Of course it doesn't.

Seems like the Cubs need to move Pressly to a set-up roll and see if he can find something. He doesn't have enough swing/miss to be a closer. It becomes a huge issue in extra inning games with a guy on 2nd.

But my fear he is running on empty. He not only lacks swing/miss, he can't get guys out throwing strikes. He's hoping guys will chase to get outs.
I’m not saying you’re wrong. And I would love to have a 99 mph guy as a closer, but I’d urge you not to write him off yet. Hodge is clearly the closer of the future. But Pressley reminds me of a guy named Rod Beck who survived on guts and file while his arm was dangling. Yesterday was just Pressleys 2nd time on the mound in more than two weeks.

Certainly not the only person with issues today but I'm ready for the Justin Turner vs lefties experiment to be over

Why do we walk the first guy in an inning so often?

Our offense is in a funk. Not a blue funk, but a funk nonetheless

This was always going to happen as scouting/metrics catch up. Good teams figure out their next play, while bad teams continue to do the same thing hoping for different results.

Nothing wrong with losing a series to these guys. Get at least 1 in NY this weekend then hopefully we can put some distance between us and the rest of the NLC.

I think we have alot of Miami, Sox, Rockies, and Washington the next month. 6 games with Cincinnati coming up also so an opportunity to put them further behind.

Yup and I hate this trend that certain guys can't start against a lefty as how do you ever develop someone if you don't play them against certain pitchers? A guy is never going to hit a lefty if you don't get him some regular AB against them. PCA is allowed to but not Busch for some reason. And it's not like he's been terrible against them either. Last year he actually hit a higher average against LHP than RHP .258 to .246. Granted hit hit 20 homers off RHP to just 1 against LHP but his splits were 467 to 100 for plate appearances too. He's only had 19 plate appearances against LHP this year.

I'm not a MLB manager or analytics guy but as a fan this part of baseball drives me nuts that they play the numbers too much sometimes. You put your best guys out there as much as you can regardless who is on the mound and the good players make adjustments and learn to hit pitching from both sides.

So Pomeranz and Flexen going today probably means Shota’s next turn in the rotation likely gets filled outside the current roster. Horton went Sunday and I believe Wicks was last night.

So Horton likely in NY this weekend?

Justin Turner is truly awful. Guy is making 6 million and taking up a roster spot just for locker room vibes to be up.

Wicks went today so it's either Horton or a bullpen day.
