*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Alonso has already announced he’s opting out of the Mets contract.

Based on some things I’ve seen from people in the know, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Cubs prioritize Alonso over Tucker.

I hope not. Busch keeps getting better and is cost controlled. If they dont bring Tucker back would rather spend the money on pitching and give Mo and Caissie a shot. Long was the Cubs minor league player of the year and is another 1B in the org too.

The Cubs need to figure out are they going to commit to the young guys else its time to use them to fill other needs while their value is still high. I dont think Mo's long term future will be at catcher so either you commit to him as the full time DH or use him in a trade. Even if he does part time catch in some capacity hes pretty much a DH still. Cassie doesn't have much left to prove in AAA either, either clear a path for him too or use in a trade. Can't just keep farting around with guys when they are crushing AAA. Seems like the organization has been gunshy at times about giving some of these guys some runway in Chicago. Finally did it with Shaw and he was able to work out of early struggles. Horton got a fair shot too. Trade guys when they are in demand to fill a need instead of wasting trade value by holding them and then not use them properly in your own org.

I'm guessing Cubs go Shota game 1 then will be interesting who gets game 2 between Taillon and Boyd. Rea should be the 1st guy out of the bullpen if any starter struggles early and need someone to pitch multiple innings. With Shota's 1st inning woes lately need the offense to put some runs on the board early to let him settle in with a lead.

Taillon went Saturday so don't see any way he goes before game 3.

I'll be shocked if it's not Boyd in Game 1. Shota either starts or is the bulk guy behind an opener in Game 2, most likely Pomeranz if they go that way.

You're dead on that the ball goes to Jamo in Game 3.
