Likely, but this isn't it. I don't think it was supposed to storm until middle of the night

This is like a little appetizer. Mesoscale discussion seemed less confident overnight now. Idk, storm watch only goes til 1 and I thought the main thing wasn't til 2-3.

Ankeny is a higher elevation (for the most part) than the dam. Parts of Johnston on the other would be proper Facked
The only homes that might be affected in Johnston would be the ones right by the soccer fields. Those are relatively new builds so I can't imagine they would have built them if they were in any flood danger?

Other than that there's not really much else in Johnston except for those industries south of Saylorville and north of I-80. I've seen that area underwater a couple of times in my life including the little league fields there just off I-80.

If the water ever gets high enough to flood up to those businesses on NW Beaver then RIP to a large portion of the Des Moines metro.

Don't know about the rest of Iowa, but the forecast for central Iowa tomorrow (Tuesday) is calling for 80% chance of rain during the day and 80% during the night. Those will be thunderstorms, though, so it could be heavy or light in certain areas.

yeah, the elevation of the river drops quite quick south of the dam, so it'd have to be pretty high to spread over much of johnston. Though maybe beaver creek could back up with those kinds of flows?

But yeah, I think we'd have to be at historic levels where des moines is in for a world of hurt

The forecast for the next 7 days is not good for anyone in southern MN and northern and central Iowa.

Great. As long as Janesville doesn't get it bad again. If you take a look at this pic, this is actually my town, looking towards Janesville. I did see this when I was trying to go after it, but I was looking at it from the south so I really didn't get a clear view.

Don't know if you heard about what happened at Alpine Valley on Saturday night, but it was basically 30-40,000 stranded in acres of open parking lots, with zero cell phone reception. Nobody knew there were tornados just miles away. It sounded like your area got the heaviest rains though.

Beaver Creek at Merle Hay was a real trouble spot in '93. I don't know if they've fortified any of those businesses or not.

Yeah, it's possible. I think in 93 Beaver Creek flooded Merle Hay Road but I could be wrong. I lived just north of there in Johnston back in 2018 when we had the 7 inches in one night and it didn't get over the road during that event so can hold alot of water.

I knew they had to evacuate, I can imagine. Yeah, I tried to go after the one in Janesville as soon as the warning was issued, but I had to turn around halfway there because of the rain. I almost had to stop a couple times.

I dont think so. I used to fish behind the Acura dealership and the hotel just north of I-80 there and they are probably in trouble in a significant flood event.
