I'm only at 10 days without measurable rain and the lawn started to go dormant on Thursday. 90+ degrees just cooks cool season grass. Crops are going to start looking ugly but some dry weather is doing them some good. Roots are finally growing and getting to the nitrogen this week.

Starting to look ugly? We have been ugly since corn came out of the ground. We are just starting to look better. A nice .5”-1” rain would be nice.

Nice rain today. Seems strange to say it is needed for replanted corn and beans that are being planted the first time, but a month later then we like to have them planted. We have corn 2 inches tall, and 10 feet away corn is over 2 feet tall. Crazy year. Oh well.

I have neighbors who finally finished planting (1st time) yesterday. They had to wait for the ponds to go down.

We just need a tenth here and there for the next couple weeks. The roots haven’t gone anywhere since the moisture is just below the surface. Need the roots to dive down some or a strong wind will lay the corn down in July.

Agree, but I have corn at 2 leaves and beans just popping through so a little rain would be nice. Bad part of this? We have missed the last 2-3 shots at rain. It falls apart as it gets here or goes around us. Just like the last few dry years.

2.2" in the rain gauge this morning. 30 miles east of Ames. We needed it.

1.75" here in Waukee. Wish it would have been a little slower, looks like some of the seed I threw down last night washed away, but the fertilizer I put down appears to have soaked in.

I used to plant sweet corn then realized it cost 10x what I could buy it from my classmate for who has most of the northern third grocery stores as clients.
