Newest schools in Ankeny absolutely have them. The Catholic school in town had to construct a room to meet safe room code with their recent school addition.

Not per definition of a FEMA safe room… there are very few of those in the state. But, there are differences between a FEMA safe room and a tornado shelter from a code standpoint. Most schools have places in them that are capable of being called a shelter.

Never thought of helmets but that's a good one or the kiddos. If I ever have to do a basement dive again I might opt for my old hard hat or better yet, old German WWII helmet my dad bought back.

If you do the German one, it could make for interesting news to see an older gentleman walking around with an SS helmet on
