***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

On this day in 1979 ended a couple day storm with totals anywhere from 16 up to 25 inches at Williamsburg. Winds were 30-40 mph and temps ranged from 20 to 30 below at night. They talked 80 below or better wind chill.....but that was the old way to compute. Probably much like we are experiencing now.

Slightly off-topic, but I was thinking about ordering food. Because I don’t wanna go out in this weather. Am I in a hole for doing that? Is that service even available With this weather?

what’s the etiquette for food delivery in the middle of a blizzard?

Fine as long as you tip very well. If you're not willing to go out you should make sure the people who are willing to do the service are well compensated for their extra effort.

Yes, but if you tip extremely well it could help make up for it. My thought is always that if it's bad enough I don't wanna go out I shouldn't expect other people for my convenience.

Just got done blowing snow. Entire side of the machine was covered in oil when finished. Valve cover breather tubenwas completely iced shut (my fault for not checking). Here's to hoping I don't cause any catastrophic damage.

On another note, I've never seen drifts this big in town. I had two that were a good 4 feet.

I've known some some delivery drivers who love this kind of weather because they get a lot of orders and good tips from people who don't want to go out.

Definitely a time to tip very well if you're going to order though. Gotta make it worth it.

My wife did that last night too. Started a new job at UI hospital in Dec. Not worth making the trip from CR to IC last night. She should be fine tonight...maybe.
My wife heading to IC now. One of her friends works at UI hospital as well, in a different dept. They are carpooling tonight since they both start at 7pm. Leaving now to hopefully get there in plenty of time.

At minimum 2x a normal tip.

Story county pulling snowplows off secondary roads and Ames city said no plowing after 7. In western Iowa, snow plow and roadgrader plow traveling hard service roads together. Best advice is stay home.

I'm way late to this, but tip big. If you don't tip big, you're seen as an ass and it's likely nobody is picking up your order, anyway.
I watched a few just sit there. First thing I look for is whether they tipped. The ones that sit never tip or tip little enough that nobody cares to get it.

Overall, I'm not a fan of ordering delivery when it's this awful.
