***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

And.... THIS is exactly why I was hoping to get moved into my Dad's house before winter so I could essentially just "hibernate" there for the season while getting my game room, game/media library room, and home theater room all setup to enjoy and just wait out the season before going back to work again in Spring/Summer (I decided to take a year off due to being burned BADLY at my last IT job, and I got Dad's money in the meantime).

Oh well, I guess just remove more wallpaper, and just do whatever I can to help further get the house ready before moving in. I'm definitely going to pack and plan on most likely spending the next 7 - 8 days there tomorrow.

I used to LOVE winter, but I get VERY ANXIOUS driving in the cold now. Everything is more brittle and fragile, and I have totalled two cars in the snow. My beloved 2012 Civic Coupe EX-L I built and customized to what I exactly wanted (though it DID lead to me buying a 370Z with the money), and my 2016 Veloster Turbo (also fully loaded and customized) a year ago (two months of ownership, literally a week before first payment was due. Though that did lead Kia's version of the Civic Si Coupe, which I am driving now. Kia Forte Koup SX). I have been very lucky with how things have worked out for me with my cars though, so I feel very fortunate (I had to have my Kia shipped from California for $1600 though).

Hell, a week after I bought my Veloster the week after Thanksgiving 2022, I was working in Marshalltown, and it took me 2:30 hours to get home (normally just under an hour) that fateful first Thursday of December 2022. I honestly thought I was going to die of an anxiety attack or something driving back to Des Moines. When I got home, parked, and when I took my hands off the steering wheel, I was visibly shaking.

Yeah, I HATE winter now.

It is a good idea to get out in front of it, and announce it the night before, as it gives parents time to make arrangements to have someone at home if their kids are in elementary.
Supt's now still do not want to be the first to cancel or get out early, they catch hell if they call it too soon and the storm is late getting here, or we get less than expected. The biggest problem in smaller rural schools not only do you have get the kids home on the busses, but a lot of the teachers and staff may not live in the town they work and have to drive home on roads. Myself it was a little over 40 miles on way, only good thing about the drive was heading East, I could generally get out in front of much of it.

Alright weather peeps, the day of reckoning is here. What are we thinking?

P.S. I think it will bust in Des Moines because that’s just what happens, but still have a little hope.
 
Well when they are forecasting 6-10 inches of snow 8 hours before it starts, I tend to think they will be right.

Yeah I thought it would change overnight and it narrowed a tich to 6-9. I was going to take down lights yesterday and DH is all one more week! That much snow to wade through and single digits next weekend. Looks like this just became his job.

The really kicked up the totals and duration for North Iowa overnight.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out over here.
 
When does Houston arrive for the game? Would be ideal if we could beat them and they are forced to stay an additional day to enjoy it. Our luck, they don't get here in time and that game is scrunched into the sched to overburden the team later on

Typically arrive late afternoon-early evening day before and I would hope with how well forecasted this has been they have adjusted their travel schedule to make sure they get in.
