***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Jon Lester is one of my all-time favorite Cubs, but his booth debut has been rough. Not saying much at all. I would love to hear his insight, but words are few and far between.

The belief is Lester is wanting to get into baseball and isn’t sure if he wants to be a booth guy or a desk guy so Marquee is letting him try both.

I’ll be honest, I just would like to get rid of Boog and find 2 guys who are going to do 95% of games. There’s something to familiarizing yourself with the same voices and those voices having a chemistry.

Very lucky to have the 2 women we do on the broadcasts. I'd love to see AM get a Bigger role. She knows her stuff.
I love her and Taylor McGregor. I don’t hate Beth Mowins except my subconscious thinks 11:00 kick off for Northwestern vs. Maryland on ESPN2 when I hear her voice

I think Beth is good at what she does, she just has an abrasive voice. TMac is awesome as the sideline. She's my dream girl, beautiful, great sense if humor and loves the Cubs. Medicker really is next level almost on par with JD with analysis.

I was excited about Boog when they first announced it but I just don't think it's working out. There is a pretentiousness to both JD and Boog that when you put them together it's just not a real enjoyable listen. I liked JD alot with Len because Len had an average baseball fan feel to him.

Boog is always working to the punchline and it wears thin.

That's a good way to describe it. Between him and JD it's a competition to see who can make the most obscure reference to some early 1980s pitcher, or some completely unknown television show. I know with baseball there is a lot of down time to fill, but Coom and Pat do such a great job on the radio. Just a totally different product than the TV side.

What are 2025 needs we can address this deadline? Only thing I can really think of is 3B and maybe C and if a team isn’t offering either that would be an upgrade next year, it either needs to be a pitcher we’re confident can perform or not dealing anyone

If they can swap Taillon out for a near ready 3 bag I think they have a good shot at signing Burnes in the offseason. If we looked like Mayo, Hoerner, Shaw, Busch next year we'd be in good shape. Hopefully they don't deal the multi year relievers like Leiter and Merryweather.

I thought Alex Cohen with JD was great. Alex has worked with AM too and they are good together. Alex and Joe Girardi was iffy but Joe is a tough assignment.

And Joe is a part timer with the YES Network as well - we're the Chicago ******* Cubs, how hard can it be to find two people who can commit to 150 games.

MLB Network did a projected trade in which they have Tarik Skubal going to the Orioles for Jackson Holliday and Heston Kjerstad, which is why I don't think Taillon for Mayo is too far off.

I don't see this being an exciting trade deadline for the Cubs unless they pull a surprise and trade away a piece we weren't expecting them to for a big haul. Taillon is probably their best trade piece right now that could bring something of value back but guys like Smyly, Neris, Hendricks, Wisdome or any other spare piece that is laying around that are not essential to 2025 won't bring anything of value back other than maybe a lotto ticket prospect. I wouldn't be against trading Bellinger either if the return is ok as I think he opts into his contract for next season.

Would be nice if the front office can shop some for 2025 if the price is right while also shedding enough payroll in other places to keep them under the luxury tax threshold for this season. That's the main reason you hear that they want to trade some pitching away is they are really lose to that number now that they want to make sure they stay under it to finish the season.

I like Boog but I get why others don't. His sense of humor and mine line up really well.

The guy has also had to call a ton of ****** baseball. I think we overvalue Len because he was calling games when the team was good and I think Boog's popularity will jump too if he ever gets to call a winning team from day to day.

The right play, as maddening as it is, is probably to hold tight. The pieces could be there to go on a run in the next month and who knows. But you also can't justify to the fan base selling off assets that could help you next year. It really all comes down to this offseason making some decisions on guys that aren't cutting it and moving some prospects for MLB ready upgrades.

If Jed ends up over the tax with this roster due to performance bonuses, and the word is that Shota being so good is going to put them there, it's just another fireable offense that he won't get fired for.

Bruce Levine lists Kyle Teel specifically as a guy to watch for Taillon - also says the 3 AL East teams are fighting for him.

Teel or Mayo is a win. Both are 2025 answers.

Just don’t see it happening. He’ll trade someone under contract to make sure that isn’t the case. I also see a world he trades multiple guys under contract to free up space for a guy who is already being paid multimillion.

For example, trading Taillon and then getting Guerrero, as a lot of fans on x are suggesting but I don’t see happening, would put us behind so you’d have to trade a second big salary.
