Any reason TJ didn't pursue Sallis?

I assumed he was going to a blueblood so we had no chance, if he's going to Nebraska that means he wasn't highly touted in the portal.
Sallis has the talent, but seldom takes charge with an alpha dog attitude. Even in high school where his talent should have allowed him to dominate games much more than he did.

"he wasn't highly touted in the portal"

I think you answered your own question.

On our end? The two guards we landed are more proven commodities and do we really want to pair another non-shooter next to Tamin? Sallis hasn't really done anything in either year to show he's deserving of being a lead guard on a team with top 25 aspirations. He'd likely have the same role at a place like Iowa State that he did at Gonzaga. Being now two years removed from that recruiting ranking makes it carry less weight. It's also a little concerning that he struggled offensively in the literal #1 offensive system in the country last year.

All that in mind, Sallis probably fits better somewhere he can start and get the opportunity to play 30ish minutes a game. Nebraska offers that and the close to home option. I hope he goes there and does well.

There is a risk/reward element to Sallis that I imagine TJ didn't need. You are basically recruiting him based on his high school prowess since he didn't do much at Gonzaga. Could be he was just stuck behind a talented back court, but it could be he just isn't as good as they thought. Makes sense for Fred to roll the dice, but with so many players in the portal I can understand going after someone more proven.

Fred has nothing to lose at this point. His fan base will except they are getting better and will tout they signed a 5 star, even though he clearly was overrated out of high school. He could end up being a nice player for Nebraska, but he isn't better than anyone we are bring in to be honest.

Down Bishop, Allen, Rice, Carr, Morris, and maybe Mitchell now as well as this dude.

Texas has some portal work to get on and quick
They're going to take a big step back I think. Beard is an absolute scumbag but he could put together one hell of a roster and is a very good coach. Terry was given one of the most talented and veteran rosters in the nation and reaped the benefits from it. We're now really going to see what kind of coach and roster constructer he is.

A lot more.

Our “benchmarks” did not include anybody within the conference - they are all far ahead of us.
