Might solve the immediate issue, but what do you think Jones or Ward are going to say at their next stop? Coaching is a small family when it comes to recruiting reputation.
  • TJ's word isn't any good.
  • ISU ran me off at the end of the semester when most schools have filled their scholarships.
If we're going to pull scholarships after committing to guys after their season-ending interviews, then as a school or fanbase we can't complain when a player like Hunter or the next great freshman jumps for a better NIL deal.

I'll take Ward and Jones over Nelson.
I get what you are saying but......

In the world of NIL is a open scholarship even necessary?

A collective could just say "we will pay you $XX and since there aren't any scholarships left we will cover all those costs too"

That might be where ISU is headed. Heck maybe we are already there.

But like I said, don't complain about when guys like Hunter, Biliew, Momcilovic, etc, etc leave ISU for Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Miami, North Carolina, etc.

Maybe that is the business reality in 5-10 years where Big12 schools like ISU are the TripleA farm teams for the Big10 and SEC in all sports.

If Yormark succeeds in highlighting basketball as the focal point of the Big 12, it should diminish some of this. I also think in 5-10 years there will be some sort of overarching governing body that actually helps reel in some of this.

I watched the “snap if half” guy work over the “everybody wants, unicorn” guy.

If Yormark makes basketball the focal point of the Big XII he should be fired.

Richard Amardi would like a word.

Getting the Big 12 to be third in football is more important obviously and should be the main goal but he's clearly zoned in on tapping into the Big 12's basketball brand. He's pushing for the Big 12 to be "The Conference" for college basketball.

Getting to 3rd? Besides the SEC and Big 10 who's ahead of the Big 12?

No one. Maybe I should’ve said stay in third, but regardless, the moves he’s made and his vision for the conference have placed us in a good position. That and the ACC is stuck while the PAC has shot themselves in the foot over and over again.

Thank goodness you aren't on the coaching staff. 18 ppg is 44% of what we scored in the NCAA Tourney. Jones was 0-5, Ward was 0-6. There cannot be a world in which you would take them over Nelson. Who cares what they say at there next stop?? Chances are it wouldnt be P5 anyway

I'm guessing Nelson heard from schools, I mean supporters, with offers, prior to deciding to enter his name in the portal. TJ/ISU supporters weren't among them, so no chance.

Move Lipsey to a walk on (because in-state tuition is cheaper than out of state), then rally the troops to give to the We Will collective, give Tamin a boatload of money to cover his tuition, room, and board, plus some extra cash for being a selfless team player and doing this for a year to win a big 12 championship and get to a final four. Then offer Nelson his scholarship. Boom, simple enough.

Kind of a serious question though, say someone on the team was eligible for an academic scholarship, could you move them off an athletic scholarship to utilize the academic scholarship, freeing up an athletic scholarship?

@brentblum , my initial thought would be it's legal. I think the McDermott family did it at Creighton.

Doesn't hurt to dream, I doubt anyone here thinks we have a realistic shot.
