***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

PCA looked incredible in the field last night—-made an amazing catch and showed off his arm a couple times. Pull the trigger and call him up. I don’t care what that does for service time or whatever. He is an upgrade to the defense and allows us to put the best lineup out there with Bellinger at 1B and JC at 3B. He is going to swipe bags
Was there last night too. He's going to be a special player. I thought Mervis looked confident too, went 3-4 with a 3 run HR. Vasquez made some really nice plays at SS too. Of course the bullpen blew it in the 9th... The umpires were not great, the home plate umpire lost the count once and sent PCA back to 1B after he stole 2nd then that play late in the game where the other team tried to stretch out a double that looked like the Cubs clearly got him out at 2B they called safe was a big play that factored into the loss.

The one where he lost the count, did PCA actually strike out prior to getting on base? That was really confusing.

Im not anti-PCA but I’m curious what those who want to see him promoted believe he will bring to this team that will solve our only problem, which is losing to lefties. If anything, he would just take time away from Tauchman, and we’ve seen time and time again Tauchman is a vital piece for whether we win or lose.

PCA is statistically a worse hitter against lefties than Tauchman, so I don't see a world where calling PCA would motivate our ignorant management to put forth a different lineup against lefties than what they had yesterday.

The only way I could see PCA coming up is if Wisdom goes away, because there is some incompetent boob or computer who for whatever ******* reason believes we need to completely throw out what works for a lineup and have Wisdom start 40% of games.

I think this year he'll be basically a PR/ D replacement I'd like to see them add PCA, Mervis and Canario when the roster expands replacing Barnhart and Wisdom.

All of that being said, I do think this FO is more level-headed than I've previously given them credit for, and I do think they will recognize that the lefty ******** we've been throwing out there is ridiculous. I'm going to predict that yesterday was the last time we see a ****-around lineup from this team this season. While Jed and Co. are above doing what social media demands, yesterday was a thunderous "whats with the fuckery" from the fan base.

Barnhart DFA'd.

Mastrobouni to likely replace him. Wonder if he replaces Wisdom in our lefty lineup and we continue to say "**** you" to Tauchman.

I know PCA won’t be called up for regular playing time until next year, but I think he is a spark plug that could bat at the bottom of the lineup and create some havoc on the base paths this year. Maybe he can bat 2nd behind Hoerner.

Wisdom has 12 hits since June 1st and does nothing well except solo home runs in meaningless games. Mastrobuoni must be Hoyer’s nephew or something

Mastobuoni was hot before he got sent down and he's been very productive at Iowa.

Any idea what the controversy was about last night when he stole 2nd but they made him go back to first? I missed the play but Peavy was not happy about it.

Speculation from Bleacher Nation that the Cubs may already be planning on blowing past level 1 of the luxury tax next year. Currently have $19 million in money going to guys who will not be playing in Chicago in 2024, not including the $5 million we will be paying Bellinger when he opts out, unless we extend him before hand.

That was the play the ump lost the count and thought it was ball 4. PCA was stealing 2nd and they had no chance of gunning him down as he had a huge jump. After the ump realized it was only ball 3 they had a big conference and sent PCA back to 1B. I think Perlaza wound up walking in that AB still then Mervis hit the 3 run HR so in the end that one didn't come back to bite them. But having a guy on 2nd instead of 1st in that situation would have been more ideal. Would love to hear their explanation on that call.

Happ has been up with a runner on 2nd and a runner on 3rd today and is a solid 0-2 with lazy contact. No reason he bats in front of Belly, Dansby, Candy, Suzuki, or Gomes right now.

There's a guy in Des Moines who is hitting .316 off lefties with 6 bombs, 13 walks, and 15 strikeouts in 80 at bats AND plays the same positions as Patrick Wisdom - He may not be a long term answer, but he can't be worse than what we've been putting out there. I'm curious if there's some roster management reasons for why they haven't brought up...David Bote.

I am really surprised he hasnt been back up in Chicago.

Is Matt Shaw projected to play 2B or could he possibly play 3B? If so, he has a shot to making to the big leagues next year.
