***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I think the only way PCA is on the opening day 2024 roster is if Happ or Suzuki get traded in the offseason. In my ideal scenario Suzuki gets dealt. PCA takes over for Tauchman early in May after another month in Iowa.

Long term we have the Jaguar 2025. PCA 2024 and Canario 2024 as our future. Signing Bellinger longterm still makes sense since he can still play first if all pan out. As we know they all never pan out. But even if they do Mervis can DH.
Agree in regards to Suzuki. I think they look for trades if they don't get Ohtani. But if they do get Ohtani, there is a 0.000% chance Suzuki is traded.

With PCA and Mervis hopefully being ready to contribute in 2024, signing Belly means your only real hole is third base, and I have loved Madrigal there, sans the power.

Agree on Ohtani but I'd rather see them resign Bellinger, add a Frontline starter and another Taillon type signing then risk 60 mil per on one guy. Do I think he's worth it? Yes, but it scares me to have that much capital vested on one guy. Personally I'd rather take Urias from the Dodgers.

You can live with Madrigal there as long as you get 20-25 from Dansby.

Madrigal has really grown on me and is starting to show why he was the 4th pick in the draft.

Because they are a team worth 3.8 billion dollars. Because they are trying to induce people to pay for a standalone streaming service. Because Jed is very much on-record saying this isn't a full rebuild.

Too big of team in too big of market to be messing around with 7-8 year rebuilds.

Are you really a Cub fan? Constant rebuilds have been a part of the Cubs history since the 40s. Sucking for the majority of the last 80 years has done little to drive the fan base away. The real fans will pay for a streaming service most years, even when they are competitive. Moreover, going on your own logic, you want the team to be consistently good, right? That can't happen if you are trading away building blocks for rentals. It is, always has been, and always should be about the big picture.

It's clear the Cub ownership WILL NOT spend limitlessly. They have big market pockets, but a fairly reasonable mindset (we won't simply try to BUY titles). Thus the organization has to show the foundation is in place before they make a big financial commitment.

Don't think the Reds outfielders love those brick walls. They have misjudged a couple of balls this series. Look hesitant.

I hate the ####### Cubs...the Reds pitching is making them look like the '27 Yankees. JFC

How does a major league pitching staff give up 20 runs and then the next night give up (at the moment) 14???
Inexcusable and pitching coaches should be fired.

Can't believe the Reds didn't trade for some pitching at the deadline. I know they are getting 2 guys back but think they need even more than that.
