***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Always like John Smoltz doing games. Good insights on what pitchers are trying to do in certain situations.
He’s easily the best color guy in baseball. I do love me some Jim Deshaies but I think I learn something new or think about something differently every time I watch a Smoltz broadcast

That it was. Would like to see the stats from that performance.
Lot of batters and pitchers with eye rolls and "are you kidding me?" Looks at some pitches that were not called what they thought it would be. Steele was not getting the inside pitches called consistently and remember Madrigal getting called on strike 3 that sure looked like a ball.

I thought Mancini could be a basically steady hand and bat at first. I totally overestimated him.
Unless we can add a solid righty to get time at the corners I think Wisdom will eventually see time at first v. Select lefties to get Bellinger or Tuchman a break v. Bad match ups.

They already expiriemented with Wisdom at 1B and it was not good either. If the Cubs are all in at the deadline then Bellinger will have to be the everyday 1B regardless of who is on the mound. Mancini has been a huge disappointment and he has a 7 mil player option for next year so Cubs will have to keep him or eat that if they want to cut him.

Wisdom's defense wasn't the issue. The fact he stopped hitting was. Mancini nearly cost us a key reliever. It's not even in the same universe.

Hopefully we add a corner rental that can face some tough lefties.

Crazy thing is that Madrigal is having a somewhat productive June since being called up and currently getting some run as the primary 3B. .289/.413/.781 slash line with 6 runs 5 RBI 4 BB 5 K's and 4 stolen bases in 38 AB. Seems to be taking a more patient approach at the plate these days and making good contact. Long term he's still kind of a guy without a position as he is not going to be an everyday 3B and 2B is locking up with Nico so maybe he builds some value back and they can move him in the offseason?
