***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

You can always keep Greene and option someone like Anthony Kay back to Iowa. That being said, I'm not too worried if we have to lose Shane Greene. If he gets us a win thats more than I would have ever hoped for.
They probably wait to see how Greene does. If he looks good might as well keep him around and swap Little for Kay.

Another question for the off day: what roster moves do you think the Cubs make tomorrow when rosters expand to 28?

With the doubleheader coming up surely another pitcher of some type whether that is a starter or a guy that can go multiple innings of relief will need to be added. I keep seeing Shane Greene's name popping up but he can't be optioned back if he is added to the 40 man so do they just make the move and waive him afterwards?

Guys that likely will get a call up now or eventually could include Mervis PCA Canario and seeing PJ Higgins name mentioned if they want to go 3rd catcher route and Luke Little makes a lot of sense as a lefty reliever. Also do they send Wisdom and/or Mastroboni down to Iowa to free up an additional spot for one of these guys in Iowa right now that is hot at the plate? Have a feeling the moves they make tomorrow will just be the start of some shuffling of pieces to help down the stretch.

What a weird situation that would be for Greene. Coming up to pitch knowing you are getting waived after the game no matter what.

Excluding when Bellinger DH'd because he is the ******* GOAT

Since July 31, the Cubs DH's are hitting 15-97 (.154 BA) with 36 K and 6 BB. Pretty ******* terrible when you have one job in the lineup.

My guess is the franchise is going to give Canario a chance to give that spot a shot in the arm.

Shane Greene is the other September addition - my guess is he will stay up unless he shows he just can't handle it in the majors. I would then guess Boxberger replaces Kay once he's cleared and Fulmer replaces Palencia once he's healthy.

With the doubleheader tomorrow I am going to speculate that Canario will be starting 1 of the 2 games so he gets at least 4 AB and not just a pinch hit opportunity. I'm not expecting much of Greene, he's 34 and bounced around organizations so either he have a decent start and gives them the Cubs a reason to keep him around for a bit to see what he has left or he sucks for a few innings and gets cut after tomorrow and they call up Luke Little and throw Wesneski into the rotation the next time around.

Need to, at the very least, split this doubleheader but the matchups are favorable, especially with Cincis evening starter struggling of late.

Reds are throwing lefties Saturday and Sunday. So he should get some ABs.

Don't need another starter. He's just covering the DH to give our 5 normal rest.

Game 1 righty on the hill, Madrigal at 3rd. Candelario sits. Interesting. Morel DH no surprise .

Can guess that game 2 will probably be something like this then (not guessing batting order just spitballing who and where they play)

Bellinger CF
Hoerner 2B
Happ DH
Swanson SS
Suzuki RF
Canario LF (or DH if they don't rest a corner OF)
Candelario 1B
Wisdom 3B (sigh) They could go with Mastrobuoni here too I guess
Gomes C

Sounds like there could be some bullpen moves coming soon too:
More Cubs Relief Pitchers On the Way, and More Depth Behind Them - Bleacher Nation

Boxberger and Little getting back to back outings in Iowa probably means both are being looked at to be added to the roster soon. Fulmer will probably come off the IL soon. Probably means Greene will have a short stay before being DFA unless he just looks great today maybe, Kay and Palencia would be the other 2 options to send down to clear up a spot when needed

Beli is on another planet right now but boy I would have liked a few more runs out of that inning.

Yeah. At least Palencia came in and made quick work. I assume he will pitch the next inning as well.

Would be nice to get 1-2 more and make it a bit more comfy but we are in really good shape.

Duarte did not look good there. If patient I think we can nab a couple more this inning.

We did Duarte a huge favor. After a leadoff walk where he was consistently missing outside (left of the plate), struggling with 2 strikes, we get impatient and create 2, two pitch outs. Not a smart inning at the plate l.

He was left of plate, often missing by 6 inches or more, half of his pitches. Inside to lefties and off the plate for righties

Then Beli missed a couple that were middle-middle.

Not a big fan of pulling a bullpen arm, after minimal pitches, when his location and stuff looks solid. Now Merryweather comes in and is wild.

Super annoying yet it feels like managers have done this since the beginning of time.

Thirty seconds later we get a huge, inning ending double play. Still not a fan of this move.
