Peeps be hunting for that 136-hour 15" run from the GFS and then set that as their baseline expectation, even though there's no reason to believe that's going to happen.
I need to link the ensemble plumes on here sometime. Everyone will have a better time detecting when the model is high on its own supply!

And if you read the NWS discussion, the main reason they played this one up is because so many people were planning on traveling today and tomorrow. They wanted to make sure that you really thought about driving 2 hours to Grandma's house after work today.
It’s situational. If you live in town, you’re probably right because you’ll have more of a swirling wind effect. I live on the top of a hill, looking down on my serfs (pinkie in the air), in the middle of nowhere. I push the snow on the opposite side of the driveway as the direction of the wind, and I’m done.
I don’t know how you only got an inch. We got multiple in Urbandale. I got voluntold to get a Pizza Hut gift card from the Waukee Pizza Hut last night and it was awful the whole way out there. Took me 40 minutes to get there and back to Western Urbandale.
They're warning power outages here and I semi jokingly asked a friend how long before the house freezes with -40 windchill and 45mph. They said put up a tent with sleeping bags, blankets over tent. If you get to that point.
If the blowing is done correctly, there shouldn't be any cleanup.
Windchill won’t have any effect on your house freezing as that has to do with how the temperature feels on your skin. It should just be the dry bulb temp outside that will matter the most.
One thing I like about in floor heat in our basement. It holds heat much longer when power goes out for a bit. I Should probably put the generator into the heated garage incase of power outage. People who finished our basement tapped into random lines I think. I kicked on the kitchen outlets breaker once and the elliptical down stairs started chirping.
Ugh that waa a possibility when we built but we didn't want to pay for it. We haven't finished basement yet so I wonder what the possibilities are.
Make sure you have proper ventilation. CO is a big issue.
Wind does have an effect if you have a house that has leaky door/window frames, poorly insulated attic, etc. It will cool a lot faster.
Unless you have a dirt floor in your basement, the water lined one is not a possibility, to my knowledge. They do have some electrical webbings that go under the carpet and pad. Of course that won't work if power goes out. You can probably get a decent generator (during the summer when prices are not as tough) and get the electrical stuff done for a couple thousand, if you have power outages much. Much cheaper if you feel comfortable doing any electrical work yourself and much more cheaper if you do it the way I did it but is not the way you are supposed to do it.
I have a long heavy extension cord and the generator sits outside, I leave the garage walk in door open and just sacrifice stuff there. I figure if it's that bad, I don't care if stuff out there gets damaged from snow blowing in as much. I just run heat and the fridge inside. Let people charge power packs during it too so they can use their phones during it.
