How come weeds don’t go dormant? Hate the damn things.
4.2 is the average. Bfd. It’s always dry in the summer. But, if it makes you feel better keep whining.
I enjoyed this weather the last 7 days:
75° 81° 87° 80° 82° 85° 85°
We just had a huge thunder boomer and lighting and now a downpour in NC Iowa.
I’ll never under stand this either. Been watering the front yard, so the front of the house looks great. But the back yard looks like I live in Arizona. How come weeds don’t go dormant? Hate the damn things.
2.75" at Jack Trice. Not sure where you're at in Ames, but I haven't mowed my yard in 3 weeks and have had about 1" rain total in the last month.
I have a pic of the triple thunderhead that went through Ft Dodge/Webster City. That was something new
I water my garden and plants every day. The lawn i dont, its crispy but one good rain and it will come back.My lawn is crispy. With as hot and dry as it is, we decided a couple weeks ago to stop watering the garden too.
We had like an inch and half dumped on us overnight like last weekPress X to doubt.
Ok BDK, good note.We had like an inch and half dumped on us overnight like last week
I honestly doubt there was a 30 day stretch where the lows were below 0 F in Iowa.Since @Cy4Lifer and @alarson disagree with me, have at it:

Iowa's stretch of bitter cold might set new records
High temperatures are forecast to remain in the single digits over the next week, while overnight lows will fall below zero.www.weareiowa.com
Water at night. Use neighbors water spigot.Weather teased here in Mpls but ended the day with a whooping 0.01" at the airport.
Finished the month at -3.45" of normal for the month. Last July was -2.52" from normal. At -5.66" precipitation for the year and why the drought peeps have me mapped into D2 (Severe Drought).
Last few years I can measure the growth of my columnar white pines and my big ginko in inches rather than the normal several feet. Time to give the pines a good soaking. My water bill is going to be yuge and I am only watering the non-yard landscape. Yards gone to toast.
The majority of your common lawn weeds (thistle, dandelions, clover, spurge) have taproots, with the ability to root 12" or deeper in some conditions. Bluegrass typically only roots down 4-6" in lawns so the weeds are accessing a lot of water that the grass is not.How come weeds don’t go dormant? Hate the damn things.
That is what I'm doing too! Only one other person in our neighborhood watering at all.I’ll never under stand this either. Been watering the front yard, so the front of the house looks great. But the back yard looks like I live in Arizona.
Nice little thunderstorm rolling through NE Cedar Rapids right now. Not a ton of rain, but lots of lighting.
Thank you for the facts! I stand corrected. I think my brain was suffering from “old man disease”, you know , when you think back to “the olden days”, and tend to exaggerate things!Since @Cy4Lifer and @alarson disagree with me, have at it:
