I am just the opposite. There was one winter where the temperature never got above 0 F in northeast Iowa for 30 days. I was acclimated to it by the end of that period. The hot weather is problem for me. I have to head in doors for the ac.

Just to remove any confusion when you taco bout weather.
This is highly unlikely. 0 C is much more believable.
I can’t believe some of your whining about the amazing weather that we’ve had this last month. Yeah we’ve had some scorchers, but it’s July. We’ve also had some 70s and 80s and at least in Ames we have gotten plenty of rain. I’ll take it.
I remember It was the last few days of December and many of January, and it was definitely Fahrenheit scale as O C is just freezing. The area around Oelwein can have some cold weather in NE Iowa. This was one winter back in the late 70s or early 80s long before the hothouse we have to live in now. It was also an uncharacteristically long cold spell, which is why I mentioned it.
Probably December 1983. Before and a little after Christmas it was incredibly cold.
Des Moines had 115 straight hours (Dec 21st to Dec 26th) of below 0 temps. The high Christmas Eve day was -12.
I imagine up in NE Iowa it was worse.
What is interesting is just a few months earlier in the summer of '83.... August was brutally hot. August of '83 was and still may be the hottest August on record in central Iowa. Had 8 days in the month above the century mark. And many days that weren't were very close.
Heck of a year for weather.
Not sure where you're at in Ames, but I haven't mowed my yard in 3 weeks and have had about 1" rain total in the last month.
Well in Waukee I can’t remember the last time in rained. Every time it’s hit Ames, it’s passed us.
3.02 inches of rain but almost half of that was in one rainfall on the 4th. Its been extremely dry since then.
Also, that's 30% below average.
My lawn is crispy. With as hot and dry as it is, we decided a couple weeks ago to stop watering the garden too.
I live in the Waveland area of DSM, good soil with enough shade that it has been decent. This last week it’s shifted and started to go dormant. By the end of next week I’ll be fully dormant in the front. Our backyard is mostly mulch and landscaping but have about 1500 sq ft of grass that I have been watering the last couple weekends to keep out of dormancy so our 50lb dog has an area to play/poop without additional stress to the grass.
4.2 is the average. Bfd. It’s always dry in the summer. But, if it makes you feel better keep whining.

I was thinking Jan, 1982 as I remember watching the Bengals in the Super Bowl during an extremely cold spell. On a livestock farm, extreme cold means more work.
I remember that as well. A few times that month were some of the only times I remember when they used the old methods of calculating wind chill it was nearly 100 below.
Don't know what that would be now.......but it doesn't matter.....was brutal.
