Got a winter squall emergency alert tonight, that was new. Basically short-term blizzard.

Weather peeps, how ****** is this system looking for central Iowa Monday-Tuesday? Thursday too? This winter needs to take a hike.

67° in February. Don’t think I remember that ever happening.

In 2017 it was:

75 on the 17th
73 on the 19th
68 on the 21st
73 on the 22nd.

In 2016 it was:

71 on the 27th.

Now I know those are all records, but they were the easiest recent past days in February that were at least 67. I'm sure there were more in the past that weren't records but I'm too lazy to look that up.

Can't say I've ever paid that much attention before, but when do birds usually come back? I noticed a few 10 days ago and saw more (perhaps the same ones) today. Seems quite early.

Yep. My birthday is on the 15th and I recall going out and having patio drinks for a few of them recently

Actually this year feels kind of weird in that we really haven't had the one random warm week in winter

I assume this is one of the more difficult forecasts to make...must be tough to predict exactly where this precip comes in as ice. 6:00am to noon might make some schools attempt to get out there early and delay/close things down?

Do you know which ones you saw?

Not all migrate. The ones that do usually begin returning sometime in March. I always thought all robins migrated, but read a few years ago that some don't.

I don't think some of them leave anymore.

I can't say I know birds especially well. These are the same types that chirp outside my bedroom window at insanely early hours in the spring, hang out under my deck and crap on the patio.
