Just got to Ames from DSM. If you’re ok going 45 on the interstate, it should be fine.

Thanks! My theory has been that this type of ice (from fog/freezing drizzle) tends to be really bad for a short amount of time and clears up fairly quickly. I'm hoping that there are more reports like this in the next hour or so.

NWS just upped their totals for central iowa. Has dsm and Ames in the 5-8 range

Accuweather still has 3 to 6 for Ames. I got a weather station for xmas and its more accurate than anything else around. Obviously this is from my roof and neighborhood. But this thing is spot on.

Currently on I35 southbound about 10 miles north of ames and traffic is stopped for an apparent accident a few miles south of us. Stepped out and checked the road and it's just wet at the moment. Northbound traffic going a little slower but looks steady.

The College of DuPage NAM NEST had central Iowa a 11.5 last night. Went down to 8.9 this morning....7.3 after lunch.....and is now back up to 11.4. They usually start high and always come down. I don't remember them reversing like that. They have been right a couple of times. Be interesting since they seem the outlier compared to others.

The national weather service forecast for Des Moines right now is 3-7 inches and Ames is 2-4 inches.

You'll all be pleased to know that I have decided not to go up to Ames tonight (and eat the cost of a hotel room) and will give it a shot early tomorrow before the snow comes in.
