Not surprising at all, been pretty much a done deal since January.

Dad isn't giving him great advice. He's choosing to be a role player somewhere rather then first team all league but, hey, there will be a P6 patch on the jersey.

What do you mean not great advice? I also like UNI and hate to see him go. My hunch is that he is a long shot pro player. If thats true, then his best advice is finding a place that he enjoys and can get a great education. That can certainly be UNI and is for thousands of people, but someone could decide another school is better for them.

If he does think he has a pro player, being a first team all league C or stretch 4 isn't going to cut it. The only way he gets on the radar is if shows he can play more of a SF role at a different school. Its a super long shot, to be sure, but I never begrudge someone from transferring.

Super disappointed for UNI.

Also, by your logic, George Conditt should have transferred last year. Why would he choose to be a role player at Iowa State when he could have had a shot to be a dominant post player at a low or mid-major school?

I UNI friend told me Carter entered teh portal last year too, but decided to come back.

His sister is all Big12 Volleyball player at K-State. Dad might be looking cut down on his driving time.

I know you are joking, but they are from Dubuque. VB and BB season don't overlap much. Unless he transfers to Loras, Dad isn't cutting down on drive time.

Carter's only chance for a meaningful role in the P6 is to drop 30 pounds (which he won't do), improve his ballhandling in a meaningful way (which, again, he won't do) and play on the wing. He's a 5-8 minute a night guy at a decent P6.

He's 6-4. He was in the perfect role at the perfect level for his game. His dad decided he wasn't.

Man, I know its disappointing that he's leaving UNI, but try to take your fan goggles off for a bit. You don't even think very highly of him to think that he doesn't have the ability/will/drive to to drop 30 pounds. College athletes reshape their bodies all the time, so for you to know that he won't do it is quite the insult.

You might be right that he ends up being a 5-8 minute guy at a P6, but the kid has a dream and wants to go out and make that dream happen. Working hard at a P6 school gives him the best chance to reach that dream. His long shot NBA dream (and more likely international pro dreams) probably have the best chance as a 3 and D guy. More opportunities to prove he can do that at the P6 level. He's got a lot of schools reaching out to him.

I hope the kid finds what he's looking for and that he's happy. All I know is that dad has been pushing him to leave UNI since he got on campus when his only other offer out of HS was Wofford. The reason he got in the portal last year was dad 'had a connection' with Shaka and was sure that he wanted him at Marquette. Shaka didn't even know who he was.

The Conditt comparison isn't quite right, Conditt has a body that has a defined role and a skill set that sets that role. Noah doesn't. How many 6-4 guys that don't handle the ball great play in the P6?

Again, I don't begrudge the kid. Bet on yourself and see what's out there for you. I hope he proves me wrong in every way imaginable. You just hate to see a parent stepping in that might not have anything other than ego in mind.

Two things.

1- The way the year ended. UNI won the league and he's accomplished about all you can accomplish at UNI (Three outright league titles in school history and he was POY for two of them.) Would have loved an NCAA run at UNI but you can only control what you can control.

2- Iowa State's success. I think there was a thought from a lot of people that Nov/Dec was smoke and mirrors and that with the level of the rebuild that we all thought was necessary that Iowa State wouldn't be in a position to make a deep run or have more exposure next year. That dynamic obviously got flipped on its head and there could end up being more value in playing in Ames next year than one would have thought a few months ago.

Might have had a typo in your last post where you said you were 100% certain he would be in Cedar Falls or pro next year.

Notable that ISU isn’t on the list considering the debate I’ve seen once he announced his intention to leave UNI. Not familiar with Noah game to have a take myself but he does have some solid programs reaching out.

In a lot of years, I'd be open to bringing him to ISU, but just not what Iowa State needs right now. The Big 12 doesn't have a ton of dominant, slow post players, so I don't think he's a great fit as a small ball 4 who gives taller, slower post players fits. If he slims down and quickens up, he could be a decent wing, but it seems like Iowa State has a ton of players there.

Looks like he only played 16 games the year he put up the good numbers. He played every game this year. The 15ppg year seems to be the anomaly, his numbers are similar to this season every other year. Really odd.

Seems like a guy they might consider if neither Brockington or Kalschuer come back. No idea what his defense is like, but if he's elite defensively, he's a decent enough 3 point shooter and would be a great fit for this style with that height.

Yea, who knows. This just seems like a second or third tier type of kid you'd slow play in case your bigger targets passed on you.
