NBA: ***Official 2016-17 NBA Regular Season Thread***

Thunder had a good lead in the 2nd with some momentum going into half but the Pacers extend their streak to 7 in a row.

Also, crazy shot by LeBron. The atmosphere looked electric there in DC for a Monday night game in early February.

The East is suddenly looking very competitive. By late tomorrow night you could potentially have as few as 5.5 games separating the current top seed Cavs and six seed Pacers.

Why don't big name players do the dunk contest anymore? The 3 point contest has a couple big name players in it but the dunk contest has Derrick Jones and Glenn Robinson III in it . like who are they? I've never heard of them before

High risk, low reward for the guys with an established brand. What do they have to gain?

I know Zach Lavine, before his season ending injury, stated he wasn't going to do the contest because he wanted to focus on getting his body rested and bonding with his team. Obviously, everyones reasons are different, but most seem to be because it is not worth it in their eyes.

That's why the nba needs to do something that will get big players to join the contest. I'd love to see Russ in the dunk contest.

Throw some real money at them. Right now the prize is what, $100,000 and a damn Kia? If the NBA wants their big stars to compete (and I'm not sure they do), then they have to make it worth their while financially. Right now, they're nowhere close.

For sure the NBA has to be making millions during the all star weekend, they should definitely be able to pay these guys more

It wouldn't be the league shelling out the cash. It would have to be one of the event's corporate sponsors. And again, I'm not sure the league is all that interested in getting their top stars to take part. One of the best things about the dunk competition is that it can be a showcase for a young player to make himself known and give the league another star to market. And sometimes it's a bunch of scrubs bricking one attempt after another. You never know.

Honestly, I wouldn't change a thing about the NBA's All-Star weekend. I think it blows the other leagues out of the water in terms of popularity and success (aside from maybe the MLB).

Plus the stars are usually still in the building during these events so you're still getting their appearance in addition to the show.

And like @jbindm said, it's a great way for up-and-comers to get their names out there.

Tough break for Parker and the Bucks. It's a good young group of players if they can ever get everyone healthy at the same time. Milwaukee has an interesting choice to make now - with the season just over halfway over, should they keep making a push for a seven or eight seed or start looking towards next year? Starting next year with Giannis, Middleton, and Brogdon plus a lottery pick in a deep draft with Parker returning midseason...that's tempting.

Man, all those middle aged losers sure showed KD what's up with their signs and boos!!

Tomorrow they'll be back in their comfort zone of middle management and yelling at the high school kid that forgot the whip on their frappucino!

Congrats.
