NBA: *** Official 2014 NBA Playoffs Thread ***

The 4 straight was also done getting to play through the east... You can't really not call it a success but I think everyone around the NBA thought they would be more dominant.
And this is why the playoffs should be seeded 1-16, and drop the conferences.

Agreed. I don't think LeBron wins another title in Miami. Unless they get a roster overhaul.

If Wade and Bosh are smart, they don't opt out of their contracts. They are owed so much money and there is no way anyone is paying Wade 20+ million dollars for what he is now. His knees are shot. And Bosh can't be a 1A option for any team so he won't get the 20+ million dollars anywhere else either.

Lebron, however, has options. Does he stay in Miami to make a boat load of cash and keep playing there? Or does he take advantage of free agency and go to a team like Cleveland and play with Kyrie Irving and (probably) Joel Embiid? Like you said, Miami is going to have to make big changes if they plan on winning another title. First, get a good PG. Chalmers is not good.

Well...that was a rough one last night. Total no show by all the role players, Wade looked like the 2013 postseason version of himself, missing shots then ******** to the refs and not going back on defense. No sense of urgency from LeBron. Going to take an epic Spurs collapse for them to blow this now, don't see that happening. The Spurs have been historically dominant at home this postseason, the Heat go to San Antonio and out play them when LeBron is not cramping, and then come home and lay two huge eggs, did not see this coming.

Well congrats to them. What PGs in the Eastern conference did they have to match up against? Rose was out. Rondo played half the season. Hell, the team they played in the Conference finals doesn't even have better PG play. Basically, all Kane would have to do in this series is score about ten and not let Parker go wherever he wants for 6 points a game. Besides that, he's a nightmare for someone like Parker or Mills, or whoever because he's much bigger. I honestly don't think that's a stretch. I'm also talking about this series and the matchups, not an entire season.

Parker would destroy Kane and the Spurs would completely ignore Kane defensively. Do people seriously think Kane would help turn this series around? He was four years older than everybody he played against, he's going to be fighting to make a roster next year, not starting for a contender.

I wouldn't go so far to say that he'd turn the series around, but I do think he would be an improvement over Chalmers, hands down.

I'm a big Bulls fan, and I agree with your basic point, but there were at least a couple series that went 7, unless you are just referring to the finals.

We may never see another team with as dominant as run as the Bulls had thanks to how the salary cap is set up now. In 1996-97 the salary cap was $24.4M, Jordan alone made $30M that year, there just weren't the restrictions that are in place now.

Ignore the superlatives...your team of the moment could use a new pg. Kane is a better defender and rebounder than Chalmers. It's quite likely he could give them more for a lot less $$$.

Of course a Hawkeye Heat fan isn't going to want to see that.

Lebron and Kevin Love to the Bulls. Rose gets healthy and they make a 5 year run at the title.

Chalmers has been terrible, if any team thought Kane could see the floor in an NBA finals game right now, he would be a first round lock. He's not.

Compare the bulls 4th, 5th and 6th best players to Miami's. Cap and talent aren't the separation between the two runs. The separation between the two is:

1. Excellent coach vs below average nba coach.
2. Most dominant playoff player in history by a clear margin vs best player of the past 7-8 years.

People should just stop comparing MJ's playoff career to others. His playoff scoring average is the most untouchable record in modern sports and he did it when the nba was most defense dominated. Nobody in college or the pros playing right now will even sniff it. The best scorer since is probably Durant and he'd need to average 37 ppg in the playoffs the rest of his career...maybe some kid down the road but nobody playing today.

I guess you're a heat fan without being a basketball fan if you can't see how Miami needs a player like Kane and he'd be a great option w thei second round pick which is what were all talking about. Hang in there, hawkeyes will make the field of 64 some decade.

Phil Jackson is probably the greatest coach of all time but saying Spoelstra is a below average coach is just trolling. He's very well respected around the NBA, he was the hand picked successor to one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time, he's won two titles and been to four straight Finals. Here's the list of coaches who have won titles in the last 25 years, Chuck Daly, Phil Jackson, Rudy Tomjanovich, Popovich, Larry Brown, Doc Rivers and Spoelstra. Bad coaches don't win titles in the NBA, let alone multiple titles. They certainly don't win titles over a Popovich coached Spurs team. But troll away, I'm bored at work today anyway.

Well, we can see for ourselves next year how much of an impact he makes in the NBA, so this argument will settle itself in due time.

Heat 'fans' are easily the worst fans in sports. Team wins a title, then most of the fans dump them. Team signs 3 free agent all stars not long after a title...fans back on board...but still boo their team in the finals while showing up 30 minutes late.

No need to even get into national band wagoners, the local fans win them the worst fans title.

I agree 100%. I went to the eastern conference finals in Miami when Boston beat them...game 3 I believe. I really did not like either team, but had the chance to go to the game (business trip...yeehaw!), but once I listened to the fans in Miami, I had to root strongly for Boston. Everyone around me was highly ignorant about basketball....it made me laugh. 100x more intelligent and loyal fans elsewhere.....everywhere. Miami fans suck, and I thought about this again last night.....glad the Spurs are putting the spurs to them.

I can't speak much to his in game adjustments, but I do know that for NBA coaches it's not just about Xs and Os. It's not enough to have great players. If that was true then Mike Brown and Doug Collins would have multiple championship rings as head coaches. Spoelstra had to take some big egos and convince them to buy into sacrificing stats so they could contend. Lebron is certainly the catalyst for the Heat, but you can't completely discount what Spo has done in Miami.

take the 32 nba coaches, take the handful of NCAA coaches turning down nba jobs, and the few successful nba coaches not coaching right now but still successful.

Its my belief that half of those coaches could have found a way to NOT be blown out at home two games a row in the nba finals with the best player in the world and a loaded team at their disposal. It's the way they are losing these past two where spo is such an obvious target.

No way Hoiberg and Ollie couldn't have found a way to keep one of these home games close, let alone the best coaches in the league.
